Hmm,

let me get this straight.

The current Corvette Z06 which runs the LS6 engine (essentially an LS1) puts out 298kW (fly); it weighs 1410kg and runs a 12.4 ¼ mile.

Drew, are you saying a 'mafless tune' alone will take the power of an LS1 SS from 245kW to well over 300? Im a bit skeptical old chap.

What power increase would be required to get a 14.0 ¼ SS down to a 12.9 ¼?

Yes, a mafless tune should get you around 300kw (anywhere from 215 - 245rwkw). It's not just the power, a tune disables abuse mode, adjusts torque management etc, all which slow the car down.

The car I mention that ran 12.5 with just a mafless tune (stock exhaust) has 225 rwkw, but that was with slicks and a good driver. The norm you would expect is low 13's from just a tune, depends on driver, tune etc.

DrewBytes,

The times we are talking about are on street tyres. Doesnt really count if you are comparing slicks to street tyres.

12's still doesnt sound right with just a tune.

There was a dude with a HSV Maloo R8 with 285 kilowatts std and he had an exhaust and extractors to so power would be up around 300 ish and the best he could get was like 13.9 on street tyres.

Yes, there is a lot of variation, probably due to driver skill. I also know of a Maloo that's run 13.0 with just a tune on street tyres :)

Hi DrewBytes,

Out of interest for the 12.5 second run with just a tune and slicks can you please provide info on;

1. What the base car was, ie. SS, Clubby or GTS and which model.

2. The intermediate times and mphs for that run.

3. If the owner is a member on the LS1 forum, what is his member name?

Who knows you might persuade me to trade my T for an LS1.

Cheers,

Mick

Mick,

Here is the thread on LS1.com.au: http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php...&highlight=12.5

I was a little wrong, it was 12.58 and a manual SV8. "Justice R8" owns the car - or should I say it's his girlfriends car :) Sorry, it also had a diff ratio change as well. I was just going from memory until I looked up the thread again.

Thanks for the info Drew.

A 4.11 spool diff would certainly help those 60' times as Scotty has said. Its a pity the 60' time wasn't mentioned in the thread (I didn't see it anyway).

Anyway, that is one impressive piece of driving to get an M6 down the 1/4 that quick.

Hang on ere a minute

Aug 03 Motor magazine:

Chrysler Viper RT/10 - 1572kg, 336kW, 664Nm, 12.3 ¼

SV8 - 1561kg, 235kW, 465Nm, 14.0 ¼

Now Mr DrewBytes contends that some SV8 with just slicks, some LS1 edit work and a 4.11 diff can put down a 12.6 and be just beaten by an 8.0L V10 Viper?

Apart from this being a thread hijack, your Honour, I smell the distinct scent of an incomplete story, possibly with a whiff of nitrous. :gooff:
