OK your right mate ..TOM1111 turbochargers magically cool themselves. XR Pete yeah mate if your parked under the magical rainbow, the oil just flows and flows through your turbo once the engine has stopped running, regardless of the fact that you dont have oil pressure. As AGENT ORANGE has said, cmon guys you dont honestly believe all this mythical bull$hit do you. I have honestly rebuilt engines that have had old oil run till coagulated, low oil, low oil pressure, and seen BURNT oil and caked on hard. If you have a manifold that glows cherry red at night and your turbine housing is also glowing after fanging it down a back street somewhere, dont you think your oil sitting in the bearing housing is going to be bloody hot, and the best thing for you to do would be to idle the engine down until the manifold has cooled to idle operating temperature before you go and shut off the flow of oil ? And yeah I suppose leaving a car running is illegal..so pull these items off the shelves..better still, every jap import , skyline, wrx, etc.. should just pull the timers off their cars that they have been running for years and years because really they dont need them at all, they must be a waste of cabin space. Generations of mechanics are all wrong , and the person that introduced the world beating thermosyphon phenomenon crap to the ford forum is right. Ok im now going to remove my turbo timer...yeah right..

well it can be frustrating for all when someone asks a question, and instead of it being answered, people pipe up with their own opinions and false information and then have a crack at ppl when they prove them wrong.

Honestly, if you dont know an answer from your own intelligence or experience, dont say it. that's the reason theres so much crap on here, people hear something from some idiot that doesnt know what hes talking about, they listen to that idiot then become an idiot themselves by sharing that information with others and truly believe deep down that its right

Every thread that links to that search ends up with muppets who say the same thing which I have just stated in previous posts in this thread to be wrong with evidence to back it up.

The search doesnt always give what your after

This is straight from the Garrett website :

Water-cooling of the turbocharger's center housing has essentially eliminated the need for turbo timers or extended idling periods.

I don't care if people have turbo timers or not on thier cars, it's a free country and it's an individuals choice.

But please don't call people idiots for suggesting turbo timers are not needed when the manufacturer of the turbo states it as a fact.

How does it cool when its already so hot 800C and some 100C or so engine water instantly cool it, you cant tell me thrashing the crap out of it an turning it off is gonna be ok for it... The oil is still stuck in there all over the bearings as its been all stired up and its still red hot. Running hot water through a really red hot turbo wont do anything I dont believe

it has to keep moving cause its so hot that it will bake on if turned off as no oil pressure for it to pump it back to correct levels. idling it down to normal operating temperature with the use of a turbo timer is a safety net.

Edit... People that one after the other say the same thing that dont actually have any idea is what annoys people all he asked for was pics there are a few people I know that have them fitted. I seriously cant see how fitting one is a waste of time. just cant see how its possible for hot water to totally get rid of the heat out of it from red hot. it just seems impossible 700C temp change and dont forget turning your car off makes it heat soak so it gets even hotter

That Quote from garrett doesnt say they arent required. What people do with there cars is there business but I wont be just turning my car off after I drive on the hope that some hot water will cool it down and protect my turbo
