unless your a real manual man, go the auto... I have the manual ute and cant say that I would highly recomend it... that said I know there would be others out there who would disagree.... Like someone else said in a previous post, If I could choose again it would be the auto.

After the AU auto I was going to go manual with this one, but test drove a few autos and they are just magnificent.

As long as you can get yourself over the whole "only women drive an auto" or the "real utes must have three pedals" stigma then you won't look back.

And you can also tow greater loads with the auto if that means anything. But ultimately go with whatever you think drives best and you can't go wrong.

Trent.

Have always wanted manuals, but I must be getting old.

The SSS auto box is delightfully good and I have NO regrets.

Standard auto is a fantastic all round package. Except if you do a lot of track work or intend to modify engine for more power.

You will need a trans cooler for track work, and some stengthening mods to handle power beyond 300 kW (flywheel)

And by the way, auto's are quicker over 1/4 mile.... manuals have too much problem getting off the line. :spoton:

I tend to disprove that theory, you just gotta uptake the clutch right (READ: Slip the mutha phucka)

Looks like the majority rules.....AUTO ARE QUICKER :spoton:

as tested by Wheels for 1/4 mile times:

auto XR6T = 14.5 - 14.6

manual XR6T = 14.1 - 14.3

I rest my case.

well as tested by wheels :msm: as we know wheels dont know jack. just wait till you get yours. I havent been beaten by a manual yet in my phantom auto . standard that is. and I have raced 7 or so.

as for the topic. once you put real power in them they are both weak boxes. I replaced the manual in my white one after 27,000kls it was stuffed. I went for the 6 speed tremec and twin plate clutch and wont have to worry about the box again it handles 1400nm and clutch handles 1100+nm.

havent played with the auto yet but will be looking for a conversion to a better auto soon as its only 7 weeks old...... good luck in choosing

Auto or manual.... T's are damn fast which ever way you go.

However auto's will be generally quicker than the manual... unless in professional hands. The reasoning is simply this... in the auto the boost of the turbo will in most cases always be on full thrust when accelerating.

With an auto knock it into performance mode. From a complete stop floor it (traction control should take care of most anti-social behaviour.) Hold that accelerator to the floor boards and DO NOT LET IT UP. Watch the tacho. Around 5000rpm knock that triptronic gear up one. Keep that accelerator to the floor. Watch the tacho. Around 5000rpm... you get the idea.

With a manual you got the clutch and matching gear changes to worry about. Between gear changes your going to have to let off the accelerator and thus turbo boost. You could always not give a  about the gearbox/clutch...

BTW - you might want to find a nice quiet place to try the above... for the adventerous there is always anywhere around goulburn!

Couldn't agree with you more on that one, and if you are looking for something that is the best from the stop lights (unless you come up against a professional driver) you cant really fault the auto box.
