How is the DVD player mounted to the roof? Is this a big job or would most mechanically minded people be able to do it ?

Geea. :glad:

You have to make some incisons to your rooflining, and it attaches where your interior lamp used to go. Kinda!

The de-structions are very good, if youre not shy about having a go, you should have no problems.

Its just the cost of the little bugger! 3 large! :glad:

has anyone heard of xms dvd and/or lcd screen? I saw it today at strathfield car radios, was a good price, not sure about the quality.

I've heard of them.

In one of those nerd magazines I heard that the XMS DVD player won an award for the best value.

As far as I know they are really good, AAAAND they play all sorts of discs like "backed up" *cough burnt cough* DVD's. :glad:

Saw some Alpine 17cm roof mounted units for under $2k fitted at a local dealer (player under seat) looked like excellent quality much cheaper than REX. Asked about playing the movies into the ICC was told its a work in progress will be ready in less than a month. :glad:

I have just rung a shop and they tell me the roof mounted screen could be a problem as I have a sunroof, has anyone heard of this? I can't see the problem if it is done properly, they told me I would have to put two screens in the back of the headrest (about another $1000) sounds like a good sales pitch to me.

ford won't/can't install their rex screens if u also have a sunroof. I think that there are issues with distance between the viewers and screen because of the space the sunroof takes up

correct me if I'm wrong

I also have a sunroof. Most places said it can't be done. One said they could, by mounting a steel plate under the roof lining.

The problem was, the screen then would be too close to the back passengers. That would mean the kids would have the heads tilted up all the time trying to look.

Personally I don't like the idea of losing the view from the rear vision mirror when the screen is open

The solution,

I had installed 2 x 5.6" headrest mount screens + the Blaupunkt interface into the ICC. Looks great & the kids love it.

Cheers,

muzzzza...
