rear suspension

when I drive at above 80kph, the car shudders through the steering wheel and seats. I got new tyres 1 1/2 weeks ago, and thought it may be the balance. so I took it back to the tyre store, re-balanced it, and they said it also could be to do with the rear suspension bouncing or something, which they claim is an inherent Ford problem. I haven't read anything about this fault, would anyone know anymore?

thanks guys

if it helps, the tyres are Dunlop SP Sport 3000A

It was my understanding that the car will shudder through the seats if it is a problem with the rear wheels, will shudder through the steering wheel if it is the front wheels.

Sounds like you have both!

It may be poorly bablanced tyres, but if you have had that double checked....

My brother had terrible vibrations all through out his car once, stopped at another tyre place on his way home from where he had just had new tyres put on. The second place checked his rims, none of the wheel nuts were done up more than hand tightened! Oops. (I realise this isn't your problem den_iel! Just a story to show how good some "professionals" are.)

umm...BA_Turbs,

no offence mate but I hate your avatar, its freaky and griggles my eyes when I look at it. :pinch:

Me too, but its fcukn funny

Like yours too, but for a different reason :w00t2:

Den_iel, l wonder if you have got a crap set of tyres. It might pay to PM Zeke and ask him about his experiences with this, l know he has had problems in the past. Not uncommon with the Dunlop SP3000s l have heard.

Could also be a siezed barke caliper and a warped rotor, although on a brand new car I find it very unlikely. If its not the balance, it could be a tyre out of round or a buckled rim.

Hopefully I am wrong. But it could be CVs/ axle assembly as this sounds like how my dramas unfolded. Vibrations were primarily when accelerating through 100ks in any gear, and when under very light load to backing off at 80ks

den_iel,

Eeewwwww.. Not nice.. How did you go.. Did you get it fixed???

Question 1.. Was it there before they replaced the tyres.. Yes/ No

If yes then take it to a Pedders and fork out $14 for a suspension check..

If no.. Take it to another tyre place for a second opinion.. Something is NOT right...

Could be the tail shaft balance but you would also hear the vibration druming in the cabin (weel it did with mine!!) So this is unlikely..

q1. it wasn't like that before the new tyres were put on

I had them rebalanced and everything seems to be ok now. I think that they just didn't do a good job the first time around with the balance.

I'll update again if anything goes wrong with the tail end...

thanks all for your insight!
