DIFF CLUNK - Combined Approach

Zap, mondie and everyone else following this thread, I have been notified by ford that the revised diffs from dana are now ready and my car should be going in, in the next few weeks for diff no 4.

Ford called me first and notified me, the guy I spoke to is not my regualr contact and told me on his computer that they have elevated my problem in FMCO and it has been flagged as a must fix on the system? :pics:

What do they pick and choose who car they fix? :pooh: Not that I am complaining as Phoenix is 12 months old next week and these problems have gone on for far too long for a new car. I am hopeful that this will be the fix as this is meant to be the revised diff that they have been working on for a while.

When I spoke to my dealer I have also requested for the gearbox to be changed. I am taking the risk as this one keeps getting louder and louder and once again is not acceptable for a new car. Even though it has been classed as within tolerances, I have people in my car who know nothing about cars comment on how noisy the car sounds, it's embarrasing.

The car overall is getting significantly worse as time progresses with the whine and especially clunking, surging or bouncing off the driveline is making the car awful to drive on long trips, as the minute it comes off power and there is slackness in the driveline you can feel the driveline fighting back which makes you surge back and forth. You almost have to try and keep power going through without acelerating to try to minimise it.

Hopefully they will change the whole lot in one go, and I will end up with a great car that I can enjoy. :pooh:

I hope they do the right thing by you, 4 diffs is a joke, but I think the gearbox is the problem.

I seem to need to put up with mine until it is worse.....mine has 11,800km and it has clunked since it had 30km :pooh:

Mine is worst in peakhour....almost makes me wanna change to auto :pooh::blush::sick:

Why don't you bloody learn how to drive?

My car had the clunk while the mechanic was taking it for a pre-delivery test drive, 9000kms later I still got it, but ONLY when I don't drive properly.

Drive the car properly and you will get NO CLUNK.

has there been any reports of the live axle diffs whining or clunking?

if my xr6 ute starts ANYTHING like this ill be going strait to consumer affairs. I HATE dumbassed ford mechanics. any dealership mechanic actually.

I know jetute has really bad backlash in his.

I've heard it outside the car and whilst I've driven it. It is total :pooh: to live with.

Please let us know how you get on with the gearbox replacement. from what I've experienced, Ion will do just about anything not to replace the gearbox.

I can just see them pointing to 1 main factor when they knock you back. 260 RWKW.........

Good luck mate, as I know what it's like to live with a :pooh: gearbox for almost a year.

I think that this is a very rude statement, you should keep your comments to yourself. :pooh:

I have been racing cars and driving since I was 15 years old, this gives me 18 years of driving experience, so I do not think my driving style has much to do with my car clunking.

Its Fords poor quality control

Crawling along in peak hour traffic at idle and putting the clutch in causes a clunk, please explain how I can stop clunk ?

I will also clunk when lifting off the throttle and changing gears.

While you may think that driving properly will solve the clunk, there are many people that have the same problem with their cars, but I guess we cannot all be as skillfull as you when it comes to driving :lol: ....you have proven that many times before on this forum :ermm:

Which you knew about before you bought the car. You even whinged about it before you bought the car. And you still bought the car. Like you said in your previous post

I get exactly the same thing when I don't care about the car clunking. However on many occasions in Sydney peak hour traffic I am able to drive the car for the 1.5 hours it takes me to get to work without a single clunk.

Even on the highway, and in Canberra I can go days/weeks without a single clunk because I have adjusted my driving style to suite the car.

Why did you buy a manual XR6 Turbo when you knew about the clunk?

Do you like whinging?

Do you like the feeling of being f$%ked over by Ford?

Do you crave sympathy from your fellow clunkers who had no idea their cars would clunk when they bought them?

It was your choice to buy a clunky car. As it was my choice to buy my clunky car.

Your not one of the poor guys that had one of the first cars in the series. They had no idea about the clunk.

So put up with it and stop your whinging.
