I had left it and accepted the car as it was (deteriorating by the k) and Ford CRC have actually been following me up on it, and I told them I was still not happy. They have continued to leave me messages with how the so called updated diff's were progressing (calling me once a month on avg) and have also been contacting the dealer in relation to my car.Since then they have done all the chasing As I indicated this guy told me I am flagged as a must fix Then the dealer called me yesterday as Ford had contacted them, and asked me to come down, took the serial numbers off the diff and gearbox and said they will be in touch when they come in.That's where I am at, just basically going along for the ride now. good to hear JB ..Hopefully others that suffer the problem will get it all sorted out as well!!!! It will be interesting to see if they call me JB.l have had Ford engineers drive it on 2 seperate occasions, plus 2 dealer inspections. Spoken with Ford CRC and FPV CRC many times and assured each time by FPV that they will call me as soon as the fix is available. The phone hasnt rung yet, should l be suprised

Spoke to him about my gearbox and driveline issues and that I would like to get a few things put on paper.... As conversation went on I told him I am sick of everyone trying to get around the clunk/bounce issue in the driveline.... He then said quote "well they do all do it" Told him my brothers does not... he then replied quote "well you should take a photo and frame it"This is the same dealership that macktheknife called a d1ckhead.... Other dealers are taking diff numbers and my dealer is still pushing the old "they all do it...
KBB Member 55 Member For: 20y 2m 6d Posted 15/10/04 07:03 AM Share Posted 15/10/04 07:03 AM Yeah, my car has done 1500 kms and it started clunking about 300 kms ago. When a diff clunks like that the pinion gear is not contacting correctly with the crown wheel. The pinion gear needs to be shimmed to acheive the correct mating with the crown wheel. If they are all not properly shimmed or not shimmed tightly enough from the Dana factory then they will all start clunking. Any diff expert (ie 9 inch joint) will be able to repair it for about $400. Take the receipt to the ford dealer and get Ford to pay for the fix. As many of you have experienced, it will keep happening if they just keep giving you the same thing with the same in built problem. If they refuse get a new one put in. Ask to keep the old one. Get the old one shimmed up and take out the new one and return it to the dealer through their showroom window when they are closed. A clunking diff in a brand new car is an absolute disgrace. If you are used to a v6 commo you may think a bit of driveline vibe and clunk is normal. But if you have been brought up on Nissans or Tojo or Mercs, you will think it is a disgrace. My 450 SEL 6.9 has a 300,000km LSD in it, weighs 2 tonnes and makes 600nm and the diff is in better nick than the Ford one and the LSD is tighter too. It is not acceptable. It would be an easy win with consumer affairs or VCAT or the like if you called a diff expert to give some evidence about it. Re the gearbox issue check out www.gforcetransmissions.com - you need the g force gearset. Get Ford to pay for that too. They (Ford)may be willing to do T56 retrofits if you blow enough T5's to make it worth their while.KB

londas Member 29 Member For: 20y 11m 27d Posted 20/10/04 11:20 AM Share Posted 20/10/04 11:20 AM MY MY05 STI has 3 diffs & 8 cv joints, all with no backlash, shunt or whatever you want to call it. If ever there was a car that was going to have backlash, it would have to be an STI (or other 4wd) due to the increased number of driveline components. The jap engineers however would never let a vehicle into production with this sort of problemSO WHY THE HELL DOES AN AUSSIE CAR MANUFACTURER?There has to be some sort of protest. We should blockade the dealerships and call the media down to show everyone that we have been dudded.Even though I dont have my XR6t anymore I feel that strongly that I want to do something.FORD HAS TO PAY FOR THIS. I lost over $10,000 in depreciation in 6 months because of this issue.

All very true mate.Ford play us as fools but we all get done on resale in the end as the problems become known to the trade and general public. Even if you have a good one, you still will cop it come resale time. Its enough for me to give up on local manufacturers for a while until things hopefully have improved.Cant wait to join the ranks of Sti owners. Is there a chance of any pics

"At this stage our supplier is unable to give us an eta on the availability of the new gearbox and diff" (um would'nt you know and be able to calculate manufacturing times and quantities?)"There will obviously still be a delay on these components" (Really! I would have never guessed!)"We will keep you informed as things progress" (Which they have been doing, so I cannot fault them on this.)Will keep you informed.
