if you HAD to buy a commodore, what would it be?

im just wondering this fact, as is states in my sig, im wanting a nissan skyline GTR, ive actually been having doubts and thinking more along a Late model camira or a falcon, thing is, other then the BA's I dont like any other falcons (except 's witha big 351 or xy's the oldies etc) I was just wondering that if you had to make a choice (and dont say you wouldnt take one) what series Late model camira would you take, what model (s, ss, calais etc) would you have...

there is really only 2 commodores that catch my eye really, and they are the VL Walkinshaw (so sleek looking to me, but ive always loved VL's) and the VS SS, reson why to love the VS SS, the bodykits on the ss's are actually better looking then the hsv's in the vs series, and with a little modification, you can have it running better then the hsv's.

but anyway, what would be your choice and why

Hmm, it was never my cup of tea, those huge plastic add-ons look tacky in my books.

Sleek = camaro, trans am or corvette. these cars dont need bodykits, they look good to begin with. Put my old '89 IROC-Z next to any Late model camira and you'll know what sleek is all about :lol:

Ever thought of the SV8? 235-245kW and almost 10grand cheaper than an SS. Although VERY plain looking.

There is one that I'm a big fan of and that is the VK Group A.

As a matter of fact, a smart buyer/collector would always be in front if he was to buy any one of the HDT modified Commodores such as the VC HDT, VH Group Three HDT, VK Group A, VK Group Three or a Walkinshaw.

Thet are truly well built, collectable and desirable cars, whether they are Holdens or not.

If not I would certainly be keen on a black Statesman (not currrent model, the one before, I think it is a 2002) A lot of car for not bad money.

I think that the VTII Gen III Calais in Black would be a sweet ride, if you got a good one without the high oil consumption...

A mate had a Group Three Brock (Blue with White Wheels - Special Apparently) absolute rocket with a great note.

A CSV would be something a bit different but I think the 'Atomic Banana' VR or VS GTS-R would be the pick of the decade they're bound to become popular with collectors as so few were made, no idea what they're worth though?

My opinion about Commos? Well, remember you asked for it. Honestly why would you bother? They are second rate and that's it - straight!!

But to play your game - I'd go for a VT II Clubbie. By the time the series II came out Expensive Daewoo had fixed the rear sub frame cracking, the rear wheels going their own way independently via camber swings, the front struts bending, and the interior trim falling apart. The only problems left was the Gen III diesel (oil-burner) and the five speed box with six positions - talk about confusing the knuckle-draggers with that one

However the engine can be fixed by a good workshop and they do put out really good power but lack the low down torque of the Ford V8s. The gearing can also be fixed either by swapping the diff to a 3.9 or by doing a gearbox swap to fit Mustang SVO ratios - ala Mal Woods. He does heaps of them for Expensive Daewoo owners.

My pick would be VS SS 5 speed. They do look pretty good for their age and a nice set of 17s with the right ride hight makes them look even better. Plus they are cheap these days, as you can pick one up for under 15k. The old 308 sounds sweet with a nice free flowing exhaust and intake mods.

But to be honest before you decide, go drive a 5 speed EL XR6 and you will be impressed, assuming both cars are stock. Also the EL XR with Tickford kit and 16's looks better then the VS. You will also find the seats are a lot nicer and interior build quality is a lot better too. The EL's are a very solid car.

The VL on the other hand does not appeal to me at all.

Trying to take into account all your interests here. I think you should by a VL and put an RB26DETT in it, then you'd have the best of both worlds.

Failing that what plonky said seems to be a great idea having the special edition cars that are actually worth keeping.
