The weight of the Pursuit is a bit of a worry?.. ( won't need my full toolboxes for traction on this one!)

Oh I think you will Charlie, I think you will ...

seriously I know are cars are quick im not saying they arent but $#%^ they are seriously heavy.....

Yeah, its amazing the ute comes in at 1870kg, and the base GT at 1827kg. The power figures in isolation sound impressive but when you factor weight into it thay are only matching the Crumodore. Pity.

I have been amazed at the response these cars have got. There are an army of supporters jumping to defend the time the GT did, and they bite real easy too.

I seriously doubt the Gt will improve by much. I have no doubt that on the right day with the right conditions and the right driver a quicker time would be achieved, but the people arguing this point have failed to see the point. Maybe a 13.9 might fly. But I bet it won’t be easy on the drive line to get.

I want to know what the car is likely to do as an average. A time where the owner doesn't have to get it all right to prove a point. To me 14.23 is a representative time. What are you going to do? argue I only had 3/4 tank instead of the extra person.

As an all round package it sound brilliant. It looks to address my complaint about the XR8 front end and it sounds a touch more drivable than the turbo.

But that is me.

It doesn't happen all that often that the mags do improve the times. In fact with AU 1 they went backwards. Unless the conditions were wet I can’t think of too many tests where there has been a gain of half a second that the followers are proclaiming is possible. I would like to know exactly how 13.7 or 8 was achieved in testing and if it was a full production model and not some mule.

The fact is that the press cars don't stay on the list long enough for the best to be ever achieved especially where 8 cylinders is concerned.

I suspect the GT won't be able to improve enough for some to ever justify the extra cost over the turbo, and I would agree with that

However for me, I would consider the XR8 now that I know the front end has a better set up. I would either change the XR8 or just buy the GT.

Yes, have to agree with some of your points. Gee HSE2, we sound old!! That says a lot for the intended target market, don’t you think?

The GT sounds like it addresses everything the XR8 didn't, not that the XR8 was a big disappointing for me in the end. I can already see the series 2 plan...., can you?

Besides an adjustment to the exhaust, 18" and sound, it has been confirmed ‘for me’ that upgrading the XR8 much more would be rather pointless. The GT relevant to cost would be the far better investment and more fun even in standard trim.

Having said this, I may still get the XR8, however on the basis that I can be happy with it as described above. The jury is still out in this regard and the turbo is still a major consideration.

CDAA, I share your agonising decision! At first I was set on the XR8, as there's a fair chance I'll be keeping the car for 5 years or more, and I still have questions about the reliability of turbos long-term. However, I was initially disappointed that the extra $6K doesn't buy me any faster times than the XR6 Turbo.

The odd traffic light derby is fun from time to time, but I still have a soft spot for the wave of torque you get from a V8, and that magnificent sound when you give it a push......even if it is no faster on the clock.

Similar story with the GT. On paper it appears no faster, but there's more to performance than 0-100 and I have a sneaking suspicion that on a rolling start, say in the critical 80-120kms bracket, the GT will absolutely fly. It almost harks back to the days of the big old V12 Jags. They were nothing specical in 0-100 times, but once moving, there wasn't much around that could catch them.

As you said, if you option the XR8 a bit, you get tantalisingly close to the entry price of the GT which would be far preferable. Decisions, decisions.
