When I asked what do you do when the car overboosts, he said fit a aftermarket ECU....hmmmMate don't worry about what that Ford service foreman said, if he had any real knowledge or was talented in engine management, he would not be working as a foreman in a Ford dealer ship, that's for sure. PeterAPS Hmmm Peter, that's a bit harsh ... probably true though I left that arena many years ago and went out on my own ...Sorry it was not intended to be harsh, though you confirmed my own view........If you had real talent you would not be working in a dealership. There was a 5:1 ratio of apprentices to tradesmen and nobody knew how to diagnose a problem. They would keep replacing parts until they had fixed the problem. The only thing I learnt was how to cut corners with servicing a car in one hour that was charged for 2.5 hrs and how to fix rattles and water leaks.I only stayed for 12 months as I fealt my experience fading away by doing the same job over and over and over and over They did not like me as I always did the job right first time and have very few callbacks. tupperware Member 113 Member For: 21y 11m 15d Location: South Brizzy Posted 12/05/04 08:02 PM Share Posted 12/05/04 08:02 PM they (AAMI) said they wouldn't insure me anymore because they only allow 3 mods and get this, they class the factory sports steering wheel and factory premium brakes as mods AAMI suggested I contact Just Cars, I think the Customer Service Officer (chick on other end of phone) got it wrong. Usually doing a qoute is a pain in the butt so they will happily fob you off if they can. Factory items can not be a modification, they're an accessory.AAMI, Just Cars, Royal & Son, Shannons, RACV Ins, ABBI, Aust Pensioners & Aust Alliance a(etc) are all part of a parent company Promina. Guest Big Mick Guests Posted 12/05/04 11:44 PM Share Posted 12/05/04 11:44 PM Factory items can not be a modification, they're an accessory. Sorry you are wrong, in my experience with AAMI if it doesn't come on the car as STANDARD then it is classed as a modification (things like brakes, suspension etc.). I had exactly the same experience with a Fairmont that had Factory XR8 suspension. AAMI classed the suspension as a modification because Fairmonts didn't have it is standard.I have had this arguement a number of times with AAMI and raised it up past supervisor level, but it didn't change anything. that's why they have Just Car Insurance.Oh and yes I am well aware of the relationship between Just Car Insurance and AAMI.Mick

You ask the average dealer Mechanic to explain how to set up cam timing or how engine management operates/funtions and you normally draw a blank expression from the average mechanic. If a mechanic is smart and he wants to learn more, he will normally find his way into in a small though competent speciality workshop. I can't blame you for not wanting to stay in that type of work environment. PeterAPS
