The Rally Team I do some media work for have had a Xenon Headlight conversion kit fitted. Fantastic light output.

I have sloken to them about a kit for the BA or T. Some basic details are

2 globes

2 ballasts

wiring kit

half an hour or so to fit

reversable - take away to another car

3200 lumens output. Standard H4 1200 lumens

only draws about 4 amps standard bulb about 10 Amps

About $1700 est

I have Xeons on my M5 and they are sensational. I am having my high beams done soon.

What do you think?

I would love to have Xenon headlights - at any reasonable cost. We oldies need every advantage we can get to compensate for the ravages of time! So, of course I'm interested.

But I understood they could only be fitted to cars with an automatic headlamp aim adjustment mechanism and this is the major difficulty in retrofitting.

Also, could you clarify if we're talking lowbeam, highbeam or both.

Thanks

Interesting, would they meet ADR standards if fitted in a Falcon, and would they fit an AU - I highly doubt it lol.

Yes they can be fitted to au.

You would need to kits to do both sets of lights.as they are only one beam per bulb.

Yeah, Scotty, you're right - and it's scary! But, I'll try to put it off for another 30 - 40 years, though.

Actually, I'm quite impressed with the standard hi-beam. I reckon you'd have to be well over the speed limit in very adverse conditions to find it inadequate.

BUT lo-beam! WTF?! Who turned the lights OFF? Especially after an extended run on hi-beam. The only other car I've driven with a low-beam that was as bad was (surprisingly) a Lexus LS400. Adjustment appears OK, but the cut-off is pretty savage and the illumination is woefull.

Does anyone know about the automatic self-levelling bit that I understand is mandatory with true Xenons - as opposed to the myriad of "blue-rinse" fakes out there to delight the ricers?

It just occurs to me that I've got the "lights-on" feature to stop my HgAg baby getting too "stealthy". Could look cool with Xenons. It wouldn't be rice, because it wouldn't be done for the appearance, but I guess it could look a bit that way.

Is there any dramas with the reflector design?

I thought that the reflector and lense needed to be designed differently for the Xenons, as the light output can be dazzling to oncoming traffic if not contolled correctly? The light spread of a xenon needs to be tightly focused, whereas a halogen can spread more?

Apparently the ADR's require automatic levelling and washing for xenon lights. Not sure if this is at all possible to retrofit. I reckon the light output would be worth it anyway, levelers/washers or not.

Keep me posted on the info, am interested.
