This should be interesting.

A little test to see where you views place you on the political spectrum. Apparently I am a Libertarian Lefty, but only just (see attached compass graph). Makes me buddies with the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela!

edit: sorry, pic didn't work first time

While I haven't done the test....

It's probably interesting to note that a lot of people vote differently to the party that best suits their personal beliefs.

ie people voted for Howard becuase they trusted him to protect Australia... These same people may have values and ideals that are not met by the Liberal Party per say ... but they voted for the personality of the party.

I personally am a strong supportor of the public/community welfare/education/health structure. We need people to have access to good cheap/free education, good free/cheap health care. Provide those thigns and people will be able to improve income, be able to afford things like raising families (helping the birthrate etc). While I don't agree with the concept of raising populations just becuase, it's important get the opportunity to do it and the child grows up in a community where it will get the same opportunities as its parents.

As it stands, the welfare system supported me for 4 months when I left Uni, it's now supporting my parents (pension) after they're retired after contributing to the system since they arrived in Australia in the 1960's.. Australias welfare system is even paying a small pension to my uncle who worked here for many years (paying tax into the system) before returning to his mother country.

I believe in the 'system' becuase I see it work, I see it help. Sometimes we shoudl look around and see how the system helps us or those we know rather than just shoot holes into it. The 'system' needs help right now, and yet we all seem to vote for the groups that are least likely to do somethign about it. (I don't have an answer to who the group that can fix it is, but would presume it would take a new Political party)
