Last night comming home from a nice drive ACT - Cooma - Brown mnt - Bega - Batemens Bay - Clyde - Home, I hit a bloody fox.

I always tell people never to drive country at night with high beams, after I hit the roo I though I learnt my lesson, but stupid me, I had my high beams on cause I was blinded by a couple of 4WD's with spotties who didn't dip...

Fox came running out from left side, hit, flew over to right side gutter on the Kings Hwy 20kms from Queanbeyan.

Pissed me off bigtime. :glad::glad::glad:

This time I stopped so I could kick the sh*t out of the carcass...

Bumper is cracked down the bottom in the middle, left foggie was broken, drivers foggie is pushed in, and that black plastic under the bumper is cracked as well.

Again this happened about 50kms from home...

Damage isn't too bad, I'll post some pics that I took with my XDA later.

I'll leave it till I get my tax return cause I got better things to spend $$$ on than my insurance excess at the moment.

Moral of this story, DONT DRIVE WITH YOUR HIGH BEAMS IN THE COUNTRY!!

Yeh Cro don't walk under any ladders and shoot any black cats you see, cause you really dont want any more of this kind of luck, maybe you need a Gadan "bad luck" foundation, I'd chuck in a few quid cause you've had you're share of crap mate.

Cheers Rob

Moral of this story, DONT DRIVE WITH YOUR HIGH BEAMS IN THE COUNTRY!!

That's the daftest moral I've ever heard of.

Doing 100-110 in the country, with just low beam? That's just plain stupid. At that speed, you're giving yourself less than 5 secs of vision. You're practically driving blind. :glad:

Keep you're high beam on, you're awareness high. You can see a roo or fox caught in your beams at close to 1km if they're on the side of the road. If they're any further off the road than that, they're not gonna get caught in your beams. So blaming your beams in this case makes no sense. Just bad luck.

Telling people to drive without their beams on highways?? Sorry, but that's the worst piece of advice I have ever heard.

Me, I'd be throwing as much light as I can down the road. To the point where I had a nudge bar with spotties mounted on it for country miles. That was until I had an accident and put the nudge bar through the radiator.

I don't do enough country miles to warrant that risk anymore, or the 'ugly' bar on the front of my beautiful ute. ;)

Bloody hell, l cant believe your bad luck Cro.

Now, when are you going to rename Gadan? As l have said before he is just getting revenge and it began the day you fitted the number plates and left the dealership.

Time for a car name change :glad:

It's just a theory, shouldn't of really called it a moral, my mistake.

I hit the Kangaroo a split second after turning my high beams off, and the fox with the highbeams on.

The theory is that wildlife move towards light.

If you have high beams on, by the time a kangaroo (for example) reacts and jumps towards the light is about the same time you hit it when it comes onto the road.

If you have your low beams on, by the time the kangaroo reacts and jumps towards the light, he is behind you and the poor person behind ya cops it.

A couple of truckies have explained this to me, and it makes sence.

When I'm driving on roads that I know, and I don't get blinded by on-comming vehicles, I dont use the high beams. I've also been able to avoid road kill with some quick reactions.

Might of been lucky, or the theory could be true, but I haven't hit any wild life with low beams on.

Mondie, the thing is I didn't have the plates for about two weeks after I got the car and already had about 10 issues by that time....

It's the only one of two things that are stopping me changing the plates :D

The other thing is, I got the plates before the new changes came into place, so I only had to pay $180 once off. If I get new custom plate I need to pay $190 each year...

Anyway, your not the only person to say that, freaks me out a bit

hehe

that's bad luck ol' mate, but I like to see what I'm about to plow over as long a distance before hand as pos, I'll stick with the high beams.

:o

Hi Cro, geez you know how to create road kill. Perhaps you should focus on the non headlight dipping clowns in the 4wds. I agree with Keating on that one. TAX THEM OFF THE ROAD. :bye:

Your gonna have to be extra specially vigilant on your evening driving trips.
