220kw V8 Under Rated

Have any of you guys driven the 220kw V8?

The 220kw 3 valve is one of the most under rated engines I've ever driven. Heaps of techno bits and plenty of grunt down low. Only finds it's limits in the upper rev range, but would respond well to free flow xhuast. although down on power compared to the Boss 260kw, it' over delivers compared to the Windsor 220kw.

If I was in the market but couldn't find the extra $$$ for the XR6T, I'd go the XT 220 any day. Compared to the SV8, XT+220kw as a complete package is a generation ahead.

Anyone else found this a gem of an engine?

Yes, Every day!! I've now done over 7k and it just keeps getting better, and you are right, my Herrod exhaust made a huge difference, I think all it needs now is a free flowing intake and it will really surprise a lot of people.

Cheers Bazza.

Bazza, you should come up to sydney for the fordxr6turbo dyno day. I'd love to see what the xhaust has done to your beast.

I have alot of respect for the 3V V8!

Esky,

I would love to but unfortunatly I will be working that weekend(as usual).

I'll get it on a dyno down here and let you know what the results are. (very impressive I suspect)

Cheers, Bazza.

Your comments do not surprise me at all. A agree totally. There is currently a guy on LS1.com.au upset because he got hosed in his new VY SS by a BA Fairmont (Both Auto). Many locals there are putting it down to bad driving skills, however when I did a little comparison exercise it quiet some of them down a tad.

I, like you (I'm assuming) have not driven a XT or Fairmont 5.4 220. However over on FF, there are a few owners of these cars that claim to be right on the ball of the 225kW SS's until their damn rev limiter cuts in. Putting that aside, the best 400m time I have read so far for a Manual XT 5.4 220 was 14.5. The Fairmont 220 auto time was 15.1 flat (Wheels) I believe.

Taking these as genuine for the exercise, an auto Calais Gen3 225kW has been recorded at 15 flat (Wheels) and the average time for the manual SS 235kW is 14.3. Wheels also claimed that the Fairmont was faster to 100 kph over the Calais, however I do understand that an auto SS would be lighter, hence faster.

Can you now see what I'm getting at here....

XT 220 manual = 14.5

SS 235 manual = 14.3

Fairmont 220 auto = 15.1

Calais 225 auto = 15.0

Your ahead for sure on average, but is it close? I think it’s a lot closer than your giving the car credit for.

Driving skills do come into it, however it's because they are so close and not because of there belief that the Fairmont was a slouch.

Seriously the car is slow, I have a VYSS Ute and my mates BA Fairmont kept up with it from the lights and we were going pretty hard. I'm thinkin about getting rid of it and getting a skyline, all the talk on how much power they have is a load of crap, they have nothing.  Any thoughts?

When someone opens a post with a quote like this, they're only intention is to stir up trouble.

You can see a lot of thought has been put into it
