I've always admired M5's ever since I might of run one along Gympir Road some years back with my Fairlane. Damm it went excellent. Had to rev the old clevo that hard to beat it I threw a belt off. Beast of a car, I thought to meself as I watched its Red arse whilst I stopped & re-fitted me alternator belts

By the way Miyagi is your response to Dallas's Pics or your aviator?

From my perspective both

JB .....Avatar , Avatar , Avatar , an aviator is a person who flys or is involved in planes. Now we wont tell you again as I believe this a repeat offence.

They do nearly fly though dont they :beerchug:

I would have to agree with you - don't get me wrong I think these are great cars and extrmely jealous that I can't afford one myself, but I wouldn't class the interior as the best I've seen!

I think the interior is understated elegance like the rest of the car,not to mention the fact that as BMW generally build such good cars their models last for around 5 or 6 years before changing exterior etc, so what is outdated now was quite up-spec 5 years ago. I mean even the Falcon Classic is going to get in-car DVD!

Dallas,

How is the ownership experience going 18 months on? l see that you can pick up a 2002 model now for around 100k or a tad over. Its a tempting alternative to a new GT-P.

How expensive is the maintenance on your car? Most parts on the M5 are not interchangeable with other models so you probably have to buy genuine which must be expensive? l can imagine what the brakes would cost to maintain for starters :hiwelcome:

Interested to hear you thoughts.

Cheers Simon

I have also been looking at the M5...again as I have seen a couple of 2001 models going for $100k, and one 2002 in melbourne for $109k.

I bet in the next few months there will be more as the E39 owners upgrade to the new M5 V10.

From my understanding they are no too bad on servicing, but you would want to get some type of warranty. Also the <2000 models had a few problems with oil leaks and other annoying problems.

I've also started looking seriously at an E39 M5 ... some are as low as $85k. And plenty around the $100k mark. After the latest problem with my T3, broken valve spring, I'm about to chuck it and never have anything to do with Ford again.

The M5 is a good alternative being roughly the same size, weight, performance, and econony of the T3 albeit at a much higher price. I'm prepared to pay the extra to avoid the stress of issues that are continually detracting from the enjoyment of my T3. I'm not even confident taking it on a long trip now.

I won't sell the old Fords though - amazing that I can fully rely on my 26 year old RS2000 or even the older (35 years) Capri GT which I have been using for the last three weeks while the T3 has been off the road.

F### you Ford - wake up to yourselves and start building some relaiable cars again!
