An interesting one for all those technofiles out there.

Only during the last 2 weeks during the cold, I've had a lot of problems opening the Drivers window. Even if I hold down the button, the window only moves about half an inch then the switch clicks and it stops.

When the weather is warm it works as per normal.

Is just frustrating then the local boys in blue pull me up for a breath test and I cant get the window down.

The car is due for it's 30k service this week so I'll get it looked at. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

when it's been raining our windows screech heaps when you roll em up. AU had the problem of them getting stuck.

Dankman.

We have exactly the same problem as you describe it with the drivers window. it has been getting worse over the past month. Must get the dealer onto it soon, before its gets stuck open one day.

It seems to me that the motors sued on the electric windows are designed with about 0.1% extra power than that needed to opertate properly. All the windows seem to struggle and the motors sound like they are working hard. Cant even accuse Expensive Daewoo of that :banghead:

Mondie, I know what you mean, My windows on my 88 fairmont ghia were like that as well. I thought the motors were on the way out on the old beast.

the window dosent seem to ghet stuck, sounds more like a problem with the auto wind down mechanisim in the switch. it winds up perfectly fine. the rest of the windows in the car work as per normal as well. got me buggered, may be a bad solder joint?

Cold and even damp weather make the window tracks more resistant to sliding and your windows have to work harder. I think the auto switch pops once a certain resistance is met doesn't it? So as was suggested, some dry lube will do the trick. My EL Fairmont Ghia and my ED Fairmont prior to that... both all had crappy window mechanisms eventually requiring replacement. The XR6T is the same.

Oh and a hot tip for you all...

On most of the modern Ford power windows, the mechanism is rivetted in, so they have to drill out the rivets to replace the motor assy. Most if not all the dealers will leave the shrapnel inside the door. Thing is, the remains of rivets with poke out of the drain holes in the bottom of the door, but will often still be too big to pull / fall through. This means you now have a piece of metal poking out the bottom of your door to damage the paint work on the door sill.

One dealer, when I fronted him about that happening after he fixed the window went insde and got pliers, ready to rip the offending shrapnel through the bottom of the door and take the paint around the drain hole with it. Class act.
