Skyline R34 GTR

Hi Guys,

Getting closer and closer to the release of the series II and can`t wait to get the T.

Just a few questions. I am in Japan at the moment and had the oppurtunity to drive a Nissan Skyline R34 GTR. The owner told me it was producing 600hp (I am presuming at the flywheel).

To say I was impressed with the car would be an understatement. The feeling of acceleration when the turbo`s kicked in was phenomenal!!!

How would say a stage 2 or 3 APS kit compare with the car (roughly) in outright acceleration and whoooooo factor?????? Would be very interested to know.

Cheers,

Gilto!

There is no comparison. One car is 4WD and the other is RWD. The simple fact is that the addition of an extra two driving wheels assists greatly in straightline acceleration.

If that's what you want then great.

The Nissan has had years of development to get to the stage of where it is.

The Falcon has had a very short time in development and it is still putting down a quarter mile time in the 10's with stock internals, a weight disadvantage, rear wheel drive, standard gearbox and rear end.

The Falcon is also a 4 litre base engine as opposed to the Nissan 2.6 litre engine.

I don;t care what anyone says about technology etc The engine is basically an air pump and with the larger capacity you have more air fuel mix into the cylinders and thus a bigger explosion. The bigger the explosion the quicker the piston is driven downwards and makes the crank spin faster. There is no point having 1000hp if you only have 20 ft/lb of torque.

Pulling power or 'twist' makes the car go forward quicker. To compensate for that in little engines they rely upon revolutions to spin the crank faster.

The Nissan may be pretty good but once the XR6T is developed to the same level with aftermarket gear there is no comparison.

A good Big one will ALWAYS beat a good Little one.

Hence the Chrysler Hemi (design) is the leader of all drag racing engines in the world.

Having Driven a R34 GTR (stock) and a stock T, I can tell you they are worlds apart. I know you were asking about APS kitted cars, but I thought I would give you a opinion of both Stock cars.

The T puts out 240fwkw and the GTR about 310fwkw (claimed 208fwkw). The GTR fealt faster and was, was also easier to drive faster. The Brembo brakes were awsome and would suffocate you when you braked hard as the G' forces would slam you against the seatbelt.

If I had a choice I would take the GTR everytime....BUT

The GTR is not a practical car, they are a carjackers wet dream, they are stolen often, you cannot get insurance easily (I am 33 with 60%NCB and live in a good suburb and the ONLY place that would insure me was for $5.5k with a $5k theft excess)

This is why you can pick up so many R34 GTR's in unique cars at the moment. No one can get insurance easily.

I ended up getting a T because of factory warranty, easy of service, lack of showieness and practicality.

If you want a R34 GTR expect to pay around $85+K and over $5k for insurance.

Obviously my reply was in relation to a modded XR6T with APS/Nizpro etc equipment.

The same goes for a modded GTR.

In Japan the GTR's run in the 8's as a "Street Registered" Catagory (Nitto Treaded Street Legal tyres etc), they pump around 1200HP and 1000Nm plus. 'Daily Driver' GTR's can run 10's all day with standard drivetrain, gearbox etc, but then again, a clutch can be upwards of $5000 and engine builds can run into VERY big money.

In stock form an R34 GTR (V Spec) will run around 0-100 in 4.8 and 1/4 in 13.3, very quick for a stock car but on the other hand like Zap said initial cost and ongoing insurance.

A Phase 3 would probably match a 'Light Tune' GTR if driven properly, but the GTR is an easier car to launch with 4WD and all that than a high power RWD, like Plonky said the Falcon has a high theoretical output but a GTR is around 350KG lighter to, less power is required to bend the laws of physics (like GTRs and HP Falcons are capable of!)

I suppose it's all down to personal choice!

Dont ever crash a R34, parts are a pain in the :spoton: !

It was a very difficult and expensive exercise importing parts from Japan for grey imports, most of the time they'd be damaged, or didnt fit properly because the previous owner had changed some parts on the car already. Trust me, I used to work for Nissan!

There is no doubt that the T is a great car but when you compare them to a GTR they are no comparison.

The GTR is a world renowned performance car that is very hard to fault. The RB26DETT is one of the strongest engines every built and can widthstand quite large amounts of HP without internal mods. Also remember that it's not just hp that makes a fast car it's how the vehicle performs over all and the GTR is amazing.

But like everyone has said so far modifications and repairs are very expensive and finding resonably price insurance is nearly impossible.

yea, as benny said, the RB26DETT would be one of the best and strongest engines out there, and with the comparison, as is already said, stock there is no way the T would be up to GTR standards, one is turbo'd, the other is twin turbo'd, and as was said, one 4wd and the other rwd.

ive got a video clip of a R32 GTR (was veilside customised) was running 9.225sec for quarter mile time, and they had a test for goin from 0-300kph, and this is done in 13.72sec.

and plz dont say that its impossible, because you think of how fast the car would be goin when it does the 1/4mile, it could easily get to 300 in that time. (the clip shows in car and out car view) the incar view shows what gear he is in in the bottom of the screen, and the way it was driven was spot on...

if you use kazaa you could download this clip, its only around 6 meg, and is called skyline 0-300kmh.

this was an r32 car, so 10 years later you have the r34 and think of the difference in engine power and performance in that time line that would have gone into the R34 RB26DETT GTR engine...

no comparison

Yep got that video and it's awesome. I saw Croydon Wholesale's R32 run a 8.55 at Jamboree last year and I got that on video too. Simply amazing cars. Keep the mods coming APS and we'll be hot on their tails.

Just ignore our blue blood for long enough for a reality check here... Are we comparing the XR6T to the car that wooped butt in the Wheels/Motor (I can't remember which it was - they blend into one after a while) magazine race to 300km/h? Give it a break - I love my Fords, but really - it doesn't come close to Godzilla. Parts may cost more - but will any problems in 12 months with a APS Stage 3/4 or Nizpro kit be cheap? I doubt it.

It's not a fair comparison at all. If we are comparing the two - can I add the car I'd buy if I had the $... Audi RS6. 0 - 100 4.3sec Bye, Bye Skyline, Bye Bye XR6T with any kit, Good luck someone in a Marinello (spelling) that's meant to be 4.1sec (isn't it RWD?).
