Fitting a Boost Gauge

I received a VDO brand Turbo boost gauge and installation kit as a present, but it came with no fitting instructions.

The gauge itself came with a male and female brass screw-in fitting and a brass O-ring, and the installation kit comprises a length of plastic pipe and another 5 brass fittings and two tiny brass sleeves.

I will have a shot at mounting the gauge under the dash but I don't have a clue as to where to tap into the T's network of pipes to pick up the boost pressure.

Can anyone help me with fitting information please?

Gday Vic-XRT and :birthdaywish: you'll have to tap where the BLOW OFF VALVE is just behind it, that way you'll get a constant reading of boost :beerchug:

Hi Mate, Welcome

There are a couple of threads on the matter so do a search for more info.

In short, tap into the vaccum hose from the blow off valve, the smallest rubber hose connected to the blow off valve is the vaccum hose(Located on the passengers side fire wall)

If you have an auto the easy way into the cabin in through the large gromet where the clutch cable comes in on a manual on the fire wall.

Cheers,

Dean

I fitted a boost gauge to my T. It is a auto, I routed the hose thru the grommet in the firewall (warning do not drill your firewall, from memory it comprimises your adr compliance) then directly above the hole is the vacum line to the brakes (a rubber hose approx 16mm OD). I cut this line and put my t-piece there. Making sure all joints are well sealed (ie no vacum = no brakes). Although it is a vacum line it does go into positve pressue when the turbo is working.

Thanks everyone for your help - rakrzy, thanks for the offer to see your installed gauge, perhaps I could see it on this coming weekend if that is OK with you.

Vic XRT,

The guage was returned to gaugeworks due to noisy mechanism in the gauge,

Should have the new one back by Fri, either way, the rest of the stuff is installed and easy to see,

Will let you know whether I'll be around this weekend later in the week,

Cheers,
