When we say stronger, what do we mean. Are they bigger or made from a stronger alloy? What are the factory rods made from?

If the engine doesn't rev any harder (because of the limiter) is there a need for stronger rods? Is it possible that with extra power the rod is forced down harder and this would be why it would need strengthening?

So many questions and so little time.

Geea. :glad:

A stronger cast rod is usually beefier in certain areas of the rod, larger/better rod bolts, can also be of higher quality steels used and gone thru more processes to improve strength. Untill you hit 550 at the wheels stock rods are OK imo but with this engine I will go for 600+ as this is the current benchmark atm I think for a turbo6.

yeah I read in motor that the FPV F6 is getting stronger rods and valve springs, internally, and duel entry intake, bigger cooler and oil cooler externally.

I read somewhere that FPV turbo is getting stronger rods. Does anyone know anything about this.

The Typhoon will use the rods that are used in the BA LPG motors as they are the strongest of all the BA rods. During development of the BA LPG motors if the car backfired it would bend the rods so stronger ones had to be made. that's also why the LPG versions were delayed by about 3 months. The LPG rods are a bit heavier and thicker than the standard turbo rods so should be able to handle more power but if you were going to change them you may as well buy billet rods and some forged pistons.

I think someone mentioned on here that the beefed up rods for the F6 are actually coming from the LPG only Barra 182 engine. That's about all I can offer sorry.

Chris.
