One thing Mrs z isn't these days is a leadfoot.

When she bought her BA XT, it was quite highly optioned and included 17 inch alloys. They were fitted with 225.50.17 Dunlop LeMans LM602's.

At the 15,000 service it was noted that one of the rear tyres was down to the wear markers. Went to the local Bob Jane, where I've bought a lot of tyres over the years. Verdict - right rear and left front illegal - the other two close to the legal limit. No abnormal wear pattern. Wheel alignment OK.

Anyway, we fitted 2 Yokohama ES100's in one size up 235.45.17's and expect to fit 2 more in the near future. But, given the way this car has been driven, I reckon I would get half the mileage and a real leadfoot a fraction of that!

It doesn't make any sense. Even if the tyres were an exceptionally soft, sticky compound, you'd have to drive fairly hard to chop them out at 15,000k. Surely someone else would've had the same experience?

Any ideas welcome.

PS the Michelin Preceda's I fitted to my T are like new at 10,000 and I drive a lot harder than Mrs z.

Not rrying to be a smart a*se but what about tyre pressures. An under or over inflated tyre will always wear quicker. My Missus says what pressure? If I didn't Check it it would never be right. Even after sudden temputure changes tyre pressure can drop 6-8 PSI it is something that really nedds to be monitored at least weekly.

I recently bought tyres for my T and was told by Bob Janes that the standard 28-32 PSI would wear alot quicker on 17x45 and recomends 36-40 PSI and says you would get at least 10,000km extra out of your tyres running at higher PSI. Basically was told to ignore the sticker on the drivers door as the tyres would wear too quickly in 45 profile.

Sound like under inflation to me. I run 42/40 and get great wear

Yep, l would agree with that too.

Its especially odd that its a front and rear tyre, under inflation would be the most liklely expalantion for that.

Maybe Mrs Zeke like to 'get up it' more than she lets on

Thanks for the replies guys.

I think it's something specific to that model of Dunlops. I posted the same query on fordforums and there's a thread on there "BA excessive tyre wear" where a bloke with a fairlane 220 was surprised that his lemans tyres were bald at 19,000 despite conservative driving.

Either I believe that or investigate Mondie's suspicions about Mrs z being a closet revhead!
