Just watching the 7:30 report and saw the report on Stuart Macgil refusing selection on grounds of the Politcial Nature of Zimbabwe.

Do all you people think that since sportsmen has merely become corporate whores they should play where they're told, when they're told OR do they have a responsibility, as people that have access to the media, to alert people to injustices not just here but all over the world?

Personally I think they should be able to say what they like as long as they don't say it as a Member of the Australian Cricket/Swimming/Badmington etc Team but merely as a person with a point of opinion?

Anyways, over to the mob.

Peace,

Brendan

Just because he plays sport does not mean he does not have a right to say and do how he sees fit.

I would not like to go there either.

Not knowing what he said, I would support his stance on the boycott of Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) on the basis that it is a totalitarian State run by Mugabe' (heavily influenced by Stalin) where individual freedoms are revoked by the Government so as to push the ideological mantra.

Any defactor Marxist-Leninist State such as Zimbabwe should be economically starved by free countries such as Australia and the USA.

Yep l agree with that sentiment.

The compnay l work for is privatley owned by a rich old dude who lives in California. He could expand our services into Africa and make a fortune but refuses to because paying bribes and hiring private armies isnt his scene. Its not always about the mighty $$, its good to see people take a moral stand.

I think we should be boycotting Zimbabwe just like South Africa was boycotted because of Apartheid.

Well done to Stuart MacGill for taking a stand and doing what is "morally right".

I think his stance is more specifically related to the reverse racism of the Zimbabwe Cricket Board in the fact that 13 of the countries top (White) crickerters have been excluded from being picked in the side. It is very much a Black over White example of the Apartheid State Rule of Seth Effrica in the long ago.

As the old saying goes, given enough lead the Oppressed become the oppressors, it is seen all over the world and through all races, colours and creeds.

It may be a more general political stance though as Stuart Macgill is known to be "Thinker" of the Aussie Dressing Rooms, apparently. I applaud him as this has greatly decreased his selection chances later on down the track, which is a pity as he was just starting to bowl his ripper wrong-un again.

The sooner a nation like Zimbabwe gets a case of International Sponsored Democratic Socialism through it the better.

If the Poms and their SAS can remove a Fijian Coup leader bloodlessly and the US is so great at implementing Regieme Change, why can't they all pitch in a get rid of that Evil, Dictatorial bas*ard Mugabe ASAP?

MACGills decision seems built upon his own personal feelings, and regardless of whether a sportsman or woman for that matter, he's morally entitled to it..

Its based on his beliefs, more than likely conscience driven, and Cricket Australia's

decision to fully support this is rightly justified. .

He's made it with much thought and personal debate, and it would be unjust for the Australian public not to support his beliefs, particularily when at the crossroads of his career, such a decision may end a colorful, yet sucessful decade on the arena. That does take balls, because its one of the hardest decisions to make in any sucessful career, given someone is always more than ready to fill the vacancy, in such a highly competitive world. Just look at the talent rapidly rising beneath Stuart.........
