Hustler,

The Dome antenna looks very similar in design to the Antsig caravan antenna, but they don't provide any real "technical" information beside the fact that it is omnidirectional. Maybe you can contact them and ask them what frequency range it covers and what gain is provided by the antenna and by the internal pre-amplifier. My earlier posts show the de-guttted Antsig antenna (ie. I ditched the plastic shell, as it is too phyiscally large and there was no way I was going to install a round disc thing on the outside of the car !!!), which I installed internally on the rear windscreen.

The Antsig is a dual band type, VHF using a dipole formed into a loop and a phased array for UHF. Very basic in design, so maybe the "dome" provides a better signal gain. I note that no costs are provided on the dome antenna either. The Antsig antenna was about $60 from Kmart.

I haven't had a chance to investigate my antenna designs further yet, as the Antsig design is working quite well, I really haven't much of an incentive as of yet... but always interested on hearing how others fare.

http://www.oas.net.au/signal.html has some signals things there!?!?!

I sent them an email and this is the response

"Thanks for your enquiry. The problem with using an antenna in a car whilst moving, is that the car itself will act as an umbrella against the signal and the metal being so close to the receiving element will cause the signal to fluctuate. Although the Dome gives you the best opportunity, I feel it would still be unsatisfactory under these circumstances.

However, if you are still interested the Dome is the best omnidirectional antenna on the market. It has the highest gain across all VHF and UHF bands and is the simplest to operate. In your circumstances, simply by placing the Dome on a pole of your own would give you the best results.

The cost for the Dome alone is $277 including postage, handling & GST.

Cheers .... Douglas Paterson"""

Hustler,

I had a look at the page you posted. It doesn't say much, just trying to show it has better gain than a normal TV antenna and a pair of rabbits ears. I had a look on the Digital TV website and found that your broadcasts (Rocky Hill, Broken Hill)are on VHF around 200 MHz (ABC, Ch9 and SBS). Are these the only channels you receive ? If so then an antenna with UHF capability is not going to be any good to you.

You could make one specific to these channels as they are grouped close together in frequencies, and if you are handy, you should be able to make it for little cost. What antenna are you using now ? If its a pair of rabbits ear's (ie. dipole), then set each side of the dipole to a length of approx 31 cm in length. This should be optimum for the channels detailed above.

A looped dipole would be better though.

Cheers

Robin.
