Have all the plugs on the way now, so hopefully next week some time I should have it up and running!! I dont think anyone has used a amp as yet for the sound, so I will see how that fairs!

Ratt,

I am at liverpool area. Prestons to be exact.

OK ALL

The curcuit that was published by xlnt6 to allow the remote switching of the LCD screen has a slight error.

The transistor to use is a BC547 not a BC557. The 557 is a PNP device and not an NPN as required for those who care.

Anyways I made the curcuit spent a whole day trying to figure this out. Learned enough about what I was doing again which I will now duely forget. Changing this one component does the trick.

I just finished installing a DVB400 in my car.

I got it from Allens 2nd last one, discontinued so it was 50% off $138 down from $279.

I tried the auto on cct and it would not work and came to the same NPN v's PNP conclusion as Scruffy. But I didnt bother with it as I powered the box from the ACC line and it seems to automatically turn on each time the car turns on so I would have to fish out the remote to turn it off again, each time I just wanted to listen to music.

I just have a little push button switch in the tissue box holder, dont like tissues anyway as they fill the car with dust.

All seems to work ok I will get out my old textbooks and design an apropriate folded dipole or phased array antennae I can mount inside the rear spolier, and make it like a giant boomerang ones on the back of US limo's.

In the mean time I am experimenting with a ground independant 6dB GSM ant on the towbar, not too bad.

Here is your scart plug...

Scart is a standard system so they SHOULD all be the same, but you may come across something from France, they just have to be different.

I intended to power the STB from the subwoofer amp power but it is powered all the time, the amp must be auto sensing like a home theatre sub, sneakey. :ermm: So I had top pull the inside of the car appart twice, the second time just to run a power lead.

Oh yes what kind of mental giant designed those kick panel's? You need to remove almost everything except the handbrake handle just to remove them... :censored:

Good work YCL :censored:

Did you mount the STB in the boot? I have settled for under the front passenger seat, it is small enough not to be seen and keeps cable runs short.

Let us know how you go with the antenna design..

BTW.. I am now using a small TEAC 'rabbit ears' antenna (non amplified), it has suction cups on the base so I have stuck it on the rear glass towards one corner. Looks kinda ugly but is currently performing better than the amplified caravan antenna.

Recently I have found the Sherwood DV-S46 ($199 at JB) and Lennox STB500 set top boxes (selling out at $138 at Good guys) which are essentially the same STB (same internal electronics). Both have a car kit (cigarette lighter adapter) - I'm told they are used overseas to hook into NTSC car displays in Japan - and can apparently output 60Hz NTSC via a menu option. I bought a Lennox STB for $135 now looking at hooking it up (if I can't doesn't matter, for that price I need it for my in-house TV anyway).

Has anyone tried one of these STBs in a BA? I think they're excellent value and they run much cooler than the Teacs.
