I didn't want an external ugly antenna, so I had to make do with this design which is fixed to the inside glass. It doesn't block the drivers view as it is directly behind the driver, and is not a solid object (ie you still can see things thru it). From the outside you with tinted glass you hardly can see it's there.Robin.

There is plenty of diagrams for these on the net. Dick smith dont sell these off the shelf so you ened to probably buy the parts. A bit of multicore cable. Two plugs and a bit of time to make it.There is instructions of how to do the programming of the box on the teac website but I think from memory you have the box turned off and pluged in. Start the software on the PC. Load up the image you want to download. Turn on teh box. It should start the download automatically and tell you when its done.Yes your box will work inside if you have an NTSC compatible tv. Or you could just keep changing it back between PAL and NTSC if you wish.Scruff

One is through glass and the other is a standard boot mounting type. I have been mucking around with these antenna and they are tuned for UHF as well. I am going to be trying a VHF whip on it when I get around to it. I am in the process of making your little vera board curcuit at this time so I can move my unit to the boot as well. The picture I get is clear most of the time even when the car is moving only probem when mobile is the damn high pitch sound cracking as the reception drops slightly.Scruff

Available from Kmart for about $55. It is a VHF / UHF omnidirectional antenna. I have coated the UHF parts (the four triangle pieces) with black contact and the VHF component (the loop dipole) with black heatshrink. The black part in the middle is a cut down zippy box which I have mounted the signal amplifier (which is part of the original antenna). While is works quite well outside the car, it's not as good inside, and in marginal reception areas is doesn't work well at all. I don't want a fixed external antenna, but your whip would probably work better as the signal is less masked by the bodywork of the car. When I'm moving the signal is so poor it can't be watched (that doesn't worry me, as it's a built in factor of safety !!!).I am looking at a vertical whip which should work well for VHF. A 5/8 wavelength antenna works out at 200 MHz to be about 90 cm in length. This is around the length of the electric antennas which are fitted to most vehicles, so I'm going to experiment with designing a matching / tuning circuit to match a common electric telescopic antenna for VHF reception. The intention is then to have the antenna so it only comes up when the Teac STB is turned on via the remote. Turning it off then makes the antenna retract, out of sight. Robin.
