Naahhh

I wouldn't touch anything French.....though I did see a French infantrymans rifle going really cheap the other day. The ad said that it was in immaculate condition, never been fired and only dropped once.

When was it dropped Plonkster--when the first german soldier came over the hill

If you look around you'd pick up a s/h XR6T for close on that. http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9247

Hey there miss kitty,

Too many choices out there.....

My son went through same head banging, test driving, salesman pitching decision making process and is taking delivery of his new ride this Saturday.....

He decided on a black non-turbo 3-door 2.2l manual Astra.

I hadn't looked at this end of the market before, but was quite impressed with the build quality and finish of the Astra... It's fully imported, built in Germany I think.

Body panels are quite solid for a small car. Looks quite neat with the sports wheels and small rear spoiler. 2.2 litre motor is OK, although turbo 2.0 l is better.

It's actually quite roomy for a small car, got a good looking interior, although leather is only available in the turbo model.

He's managed a pretty good deal with no trade-in, around $27500 on the road.

If you can afford a bit more, I'd go for the Astra convertible. Now there's a good looking affordable and practical convertible.

MX5's are also a lot of fun, but there's so many of them around, and they haven't changed their appearance for what is it, about 15 years? Doesn't have the same new car impact that a new body shape does. (IMHO)

I'm surprised you had problems with the Renault Clio..... reading magazine articles, you'd think it was the only choice for a half decent performance car in the category.... just can't trust magazine articles. Much better to get first hand feedback from previous owners.

If you haven't made a decision by next week, I'll get some feedback from my son on his impressions on the Astra.

It's always fun going shopping, and shopping for cars is as good as it gets for me.

Good luck kitty.

Magazines dont' ahve to live witht he foibles. The Clio is a extremely good car to drive when it all works properly. Kinda like the T is, except there's some shonky ones out there that leave a sour taste in some owners mouths.

We drove an Astra convertible. I have already bent a few ears around the place with my opinion of that driving experience.... The SRi is going to have to build up the image again. The last Astra I drove was quite nice (1.8 Auto back in 1998ish) to steer... illusion shattered att he moment.

KITTY WAS DRIVING AROUND IN CONVERTIBLES TODAY.......

Firstly an extremely disappointing n/a automatic Astra Convertible.... the Limited Edition is purty though

This afternoon I was in a RED MX5

ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMY ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM BABY OH YEAH I DAMNED WELL LOVE THIS CAR

But I still haven't made the decision..... *sigh*

You can say that again..... this is getting pretty tough I must say.

The reason NOT to get another Falcon is basically fuel. I could never drive the XR6 n/a or T gently.... and we don't have enough room in the two itty bitty carparks we have allocated :(

Besides, sporty.... a bit of the ole zoom zoom.... we have Bruce, we want a completely different driving experience hence the Toy Car.....

We still have the Corolla Sportivo to test drive at extremely high revs, the selespeed 147 and another MX5 in silver (Hag?) with Carbon Fibre trim and hard top available.

Must say I like the Astra SRi, and the turbo does indeed have all the fruit. If I was going to buy Astra SRi in Turbo, they are only available in silver, and it would be the black one like your son's TurboTom.

As for the Astra Convertible, it really was a boatride... back end and front end going out of whack over road corrugations out the back of Coppings Crossing.... very weird, suppose the manual would be quicker but the body contour roll will still make me seasick

*sigh*

Another long post that only leads me to two cars still on the YES list...

MX5

Astra SRi (n/a in my colour choice or turbs in silver only :pinch: )

still to come the 147 and the Sportivo on Saturday....

WISH ME LUCK, I think I'm gonna need it
