Hey guys, due to problems with one of my feet, my "T" needs some new back tyres. I'm in Melbournes south east (East Malvern) and would appreciate any thoughts on which tyre (17") and where from. I'm also interested in knowing what size can go on standard rims.

If anyone has recent experience buying tyres in Melbourne let me know the tyre, the price and where from.

I went for some Micheline Pilot Preceda's 235/45/R17.

I chucked the SP3000's on the rear and the michies on the front.

They both got the same tread wear rating, but the michies perform so much better.

Stronger, way stronger sidewall, a lot more of the tyre touches the road through their brick technology, and they just stick like there is no tomorrow!!

Best $340 (each) I've ever spent.

I got mine from Bob Jane.

The only thing wrong with them, they are only speed rated to 240km/h. So if you have a hankering to crack the speed limiter (if you do let me know how it's done), they arnt a good tyre for you. If you're happy with your 230km/h speed limiter, perfect tyre for you.

As I have problems with my feet as well :pooh::pooh: . I'll be going back to the Dumlops next time as they're wet weather adhesion seems superior. Paid $250 for the falken's & could have gotten the Dunny's for the same.

Don't know about the 17's sorry but I just bought a set of Goodyear Eagle F1's GSD3's at $435 a corner. RRP is $480. Bloody 18's are expensive! 17's should be quite a bit cheaper. I have only done about 100km on them so far and they feel ok. They do feel a little bit more floaty then the Dunlops (SP9000's) that came standard but once into the corner they hold nicely. About all I can offer at this stage till I head up the hills sorry.

I got the Pirelli P zero nero. Special sale price of 290 a corner. Unfourtunatly 1 week special only. I am very impressed with this tyre in the dry. I haven't had a decent rain yet to test them in the wet but I gave it a good fang up the mountains the other day and really tried to get them to slip. Very impressed with the handling far superior than the originals. I guess it depends on what you want from your tyres. RRP at the time I purchased them was 512 a corner. If you shop around you can get them much cheaper than that but I love them. Now that I have owned them I think I would have paid the 512 a corner for the better performance. I am still waiting on a good wet drive before my final evaluation. So far so good.

I bought 4x Dunlop 17's same as the ones already on the car for $600 brand new. They were in the trading post. They are there regularly from different sellers that work for Dunlop. They must get staff prices and then sell them.

I just replaced my 17" 3000A's last week after 32,500km with the same last week.

I did an Eastern Creek drive day on Easter Saturday, on the old set and they were slipping and sliding. Not sure whether I flatspotted a tyre or lost a balancing weight, but by the end of the day I had mega vibration from the front.

Every session after 3 laps, it was oversteer city! EC is very hard on tyres and brakes.

In summary, I think these tyres are not as grippy when they are totally worn down.

On an aside, I was the only T there! (1*GT,1*XR8 and 2*XR6NA's).

I reluctantly opted for the 3000A's again, and it reminded me of when I first got my T and how impressed I was with the grip/handling. These tyres do have a lot of grip. I have no regrets and recommend the 3000As. I reckon a half worn set would stand up much better on the track.
