Blown,

Be very careful about being searched. Our civil liberties have been scrapped due tot he knifew laws (NSW). If a cop wants to search you the no longer need any reason to do so.

I remember test driving a 3000GT a few years back that had a RD the same as mine. I told the sales guy (mate) how it worked so the person who bought it would know about it. I was told last year by a friendly HWP officer that NSW had only 3 RD detectors and they were not used much as nobody uses them anymore. The other good thing about this police complaincy is they drive around with their mobile radar on all the time so you get heaps of warning. RD's are only useful on the freeways/highways as the falsing is annoying

Zap thanks for that ...but like you said ...they'll have a VERY HARD time looking for it..consealed very good

Before Plonky elabotates on this topic, a good mobile radar operator will only operate it when his physical observations tell him the vehicle is speeding. I bet I can operate it and lock a speed on before many people can activate the brake pedal. Yes the detector will go off if a vehicle in front is being detected. However this will not always be the case.

To answer Zaps question, last friday was the last time one was seized. There is a ticket but I like to start proceedings and ask the Magistrate for an order to destroy it. Its easier for me that way.

Also I ask the question, if you spend 1,500 to 2,000 on a detector, that's a lot of tickets you have to get off before you get your moneys worth.

Hows this. Your caught with a detector detector around an airport and the tower is contacted and it interupts their beacons or equipment. Commonwealth charges may result. Dont laugh I have heard of it done.

how about this curious,

you are siting on a nice straight streatch of safe road with your radar and booking people when a FA-18 locks its anti radar missle on you and your patrol car turns into a crater  This is a true story in the UK except the plane did not have any missles, or the result would have been a crater

Also a detector detector is only used by police, do you mean a normal RD ?

On a serious note:

Up here in Sydney I have found that most mobile units seem to leave their units on all the time, even on the highway I get about 2km warning of an approaching antifunsquadcar :w00t2:

I have also managed to save $,000's over the years with my inital $990 investment.

If the police are so good at using radar why the hell did they ban RD ? I prefer a semi level playing field as it is not fair.

I good radar operator will beat a Radar detector EVERY time.

I know :)

I still believe the best way is to have a CB and listen to the truck drivers....they are the best detector out there.

Curious is totally correct and people must remember that if one specific piece of legislation does not empower a search of a vehicle or person then another piece of legislation will.

EG: Random Breath testing gives us the power to stop a car for the purpose of RBT. Once that is done, we have no power under that SPECIFIC piece of legislation to detain a driver. However, we have power under the Road Transport (Vehicle Registration Standards) to inspect the vehicle to ensure compliance. If we so desire (have reasonable grounds) we also have pwoer under the Crimes Act/Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act etc etc to search people and cars

If you know where your power lays and you have reasonable grounds then you can search vehicles and cars.

This is why a good (meaning switched on) Policeman will always catch those that actively go out to break the law.

Plonky,

If you knew a car had a consealed RD unit fitted, if you could not see it nor could you find out how to activate it, there is no way you can charge the driver or confiscate the unit is there ?

While I know that breaking the law is not a good thing, I respect what the ploice do and I always drive to the conditions and do not drive like an iddiot. I am more consious of my speed and the road than most drivers.

I also think the best radar detection device are other drivers in front as you watch them slam on their brakes even for general duties driving the other way.
