Guest TonyH Guests Posted 20/02/03 10:32 AM Share Posted 20/02/03 10:32 AM I haven't tried PULP yet. I was wondering if you can get better economy with it and if so if its enough to offset the extra cost.

Dont notice a difference in economy or power. You certainly wont get the 8c a litre back in improved economy. Its more important to ensure you buy fuel from a major (Shell, BP etc) than whether its ULP or PULP IMO.

Guest XR6T BEAR Guests Posted 21/02/03 02:56 AM Share Posted 21/02/03 02:56 AM a fleet person who got my car rang ford up about this, because they dont want to pay for premium, ford said for one week of every month to use premium and the others to use regular, something to do with clearing out the engine, I'm not positive on the reason, but that's what ford said to do and I would recommend following that idea. What im doing is the first week of every month is premium, the other weeks are regular.

Guest DZ. Guests Posted 21/02/03 03:17 AM Share Posted 21/02/03 03:17 AM Most PULP come with detergent additives that clean out carbon deposits - that's probably the reason for occassionally running premium
Guest cul08r Guests Posted 21/02/03 03:23 AM Share Posted 21/02/03 03:23 AM I'll bite.I almost agree with everything ninka said. There is no economy improvement generally.Except 1 point. Performance. You might say I can't feel a difference, but dyno after dyno will show a difference by using a fuel with increased ron. But let me ask this. When you say you use ULP instead of Optimax, do you mean premium or regular ULP? In my experience, you will see a difference between 91-92ron ULP and the like of 98 ron Uptimax. Make a bigger diff too if you add in some methyl benzine!Optimax, Ultimate and Synergy 8000 all use different cleaning properties and are a denser fuel than normal ULP, so IMHO an extra 10c (here in NSW) is worth it.Also, if the ECU is self learning to a point, then adding 98 to a 1/4 tank of regular ULP is not going to allow your car to perform as soon as you pull out of the servo. You have to wait for it to learn, or reset it so it can adjust the timing quicker. I do not know what type of ECU is in the new XR6T, or whether it allows the timing to change...
