Thanks for the info cooltint.

Its good to get a bit of advice from someone in the know, we all hear different opinions, a lot of them conflicting. At least now we can walk into the local tinter and sound like we know what we are on about.

What brought you to the site, are you a T6 owner?

To answer your questions:- Firstly I have just placed an order for an XR6T, after three generations of the Late model camira Acclaim wagon.

I'm just sick and tired of having to spend thousands of dollars modifying a new car to make it handle and stop like it should, only to be told when it comes time to trade it that it's 'just a Late model camira Wagon mate', even though it looks great and sticks like glue to the back of an SS through the twisty bits and it's only a V6.

I'm afraid that this time around Expensive Daewoo has become a little too complacent. Ford has simply produced a better car and I'll bet I'm not the only one to jump ship.

Secondly the only real way to tell what's on your car is to ask the guys that fitted it. Sometimes the dealer uses outside tint shops like ours, sometimes they do it in house.

Some of the larger aftermarket suppliers only offer their shops one type of film, otherwise people can get confused when they are spoiled for choice. Unfortunatly this sometimes means you don't always get the best film for each applcation.

We carry approx. 16 different films, but the trick is in knowing which film will best suit each client. We ask lots of questions to discover the buying motivations of each customer so that the right film for that car is chosen. Eg we had a young guy in the other day with a BA XR6T ute, he said he didn't care about the radio reception as he never listened to it (he had Premium Sound and lots of CD's). So he chose the Full Metal film, but at least he knew what he was getting and he made an informed choice.

Other customers have come in to ask if their film could be the cause of their reception problems, becuse they've heard this could be the case, yet when we check the warranty card it just says 'Film Type....T35', which simply means that it has 35% light transmission (the legal shade), no clue as to what film type or even which manufacturer has been used.

Thirdly some manufacturers rep's tell me that they've been fitting Metalised films to cars with rear screen ariels for years without problems and that it's a build quality issue. Mind you they didn't have a non dyed polyester film to offer at the time.

I think it has more to do with the way the ariel is mounted to the rear screen of the Falcon because to be fair European cars have had rear screen ariels for years now and they don't seem to be affected in the same way.

I've spoken to many BA owners over the last six months in a quest to decide which film I'll eventually use on my car and the response has been mixed. Lots of people have had Metalised film some have had issues others no problem so go figure?

Best advice I could give is, if in doubt seek out a quality Non Dyed Polyester film such as 3M CS35 Black, Solargard True Grey 35 or CPFilms EMINM35. Good Luck.

PS. If you do go for a dye based film check out the fine print on the warranty card as most of these films don't cover you against film discolouration (fading or turning purple). Even though they offer a Lifetime warranty.

Buyer Beware!!!

I hate to dig up old threads, but :nugget:

Just spoke to the 'aftermarket girl' at my dealer. She was basically telling me what they use is a carbon based film - 3M Scotchtint Black. This does not cause reception problems, and has a lifetime guarantee including a guarantee against fade/color change - it's not metallic or dye based... .

So based on what cooltint said, I'm also confused

Which of the categories that cooltint mentioned does this carbon film fit into, if any?

At least I have time to research the product...

Hi Mac Dude,

In reply to your question regards the 3M Tint offered by the 'Aftermarket Sales Girl', the product she is refering to is a relativley new film called '3MCS35 Black'. This stands for Colour Stable, 35% light transmission (Legal limit), it's made from Carbon particles (just like your cars' tyres or Black Polypipe) and contains no dye in its construction.

Warranty is Lifetime which includes 'not turning purple' Heat reduction is 39% which is pretty good for a film without metal to reject energy.

There are other films available that reject a little more heat and have the same type of warranty PM me if you would like any further info.

Hope this helps.

Regards
