THey had a setup with a 'thief' breaking into a car in the middle of the day on city street and nobody challenged him. Hardly anybody even noticed what was happening even with the alarm blaring and the guy with 'break-in tools'.I have always been quite cynical of the effectiveness of alarms. The only good car security IMO is a back to base thing like Quicktrak or I think you can get some alarms that somehow send a message to your mobile phone when it goes off. I went in to JB Hifi to order the same system I had in my AU1 and they told me there are very few that can be fitted to the BA. I have not investigated this much further but would like to know what others are using. All I would like is one that works on voltage drop ie, doors, bonnet, boot and maybe shock. Thanks. In my case its a black widow or so I was told. Sentry also install alarms as "Factory options".http://www.sentryalarms.com.au/alarm.htm They are the same people who install the monitored QuikTrak. I believe the MK4 is what installs into the ford?Hope this helps out in your investigations.Wayne

dsan Member 60 Member For: 20y 11m 6d Location: Maitland, NSW Posted 10/04/04 05:43 AM Share Posted 10/04/04 05:43 AM I'm really interested in getting an aftermarket alarm that uses the existing Ford remote to arm/disarm. I don't want another remote dangling from my key ring next to the Ford one.I've seen them advertised but I haven't looked into compatibility with the BA. Here is one I found that is made by Mongoose. I have a much more complicated Mongoose alarm installed in my current car ('95 Lancer) with Ultrasonic sensors inside the cabin, it seems to work really well. I got them to hook it up to my existing central locking as well and it only ended up costing me about $400-450.I don't know how Mongoose stacks up against more famous alarm companies but it seems like a good option to me (if it works in a BA).
