Was at the FPV & XR owners club of Victoria meeting last night and one of the speakers was from FPV. I dont remember his name but he was speaking about the F6 Typhoon. A majority of the crowd was V8 people that were not real happy about the F6. A few of the points that people may find interesting, some might know this already some might not. The F6 uses the same fuel delivery system as the "T". Same fuel pump and same injectors. The only real difference besides a few stregthened internals are the second air intake. The bigger intercooler, this is where they get the extra boost, due to less pressure drop. The boost is up 2-3psi at the intake manifold.

Using the same injectors as the "T" means that the car will have similar limits on power.

Someone asked about times the car would run and I pointed out that my car had similar boost as the F6 and was running 13.3's. I said that the F6 would probably be mid 13's which might upset GT owners, he smiled and said this would be close.

Was a good night.

Thanks for the info Geea.

Did they do something to the ECU so its doesnt have a heart attack when the boost goes over 6.5 psi?

Is there any point fitting a Typhoon intercooler to a standard T then? Once the boost goes over 6.5psi, wont the ECU start cutting cylinders?

Fordtech mentioned to me that he can't wait to get the ECU calibrations for the F6 so he can flash them into a XR6T and see what happens.

He didn't talk about the CPU, but I'd asume that it was programed for the 8-9psi of boost. I doubt there would be any benefit to fitting the typhoon intercooler without fitting an after market chip such as the Xede or Unichip. It might even go in to limp mode due to excessive boost.

That would be a very interesting experiment. I wish I had asked about the possibilities of using the F6 calibrations on a modded "T".

I think Harasn has said before it's very easy for a Fordtech to tweak the computer settings as they have the right software and stuff, don't think it's a job that dealers can do though.

I think you are right there's probably not a lot of purpose in upgrading the intercooler on a standard T because of the problems you mentioned.

What about banging on an intercooler, air intake setup, new valve springs and get the F6 cals flashed into the ECU and hey presto XR6T now a F6.....maybe? :banghead:

My understanding from what the FPV bloke said was that this could very well work. I'm not sure where you would get the flash though, would Ford dealers get it when the F6 is released? If so it could be a good idea to get real friendly with your local dealer.
