Hey guys, I recently bought my first BF mk2 XR6t and I'm having issues with the manul transmission not going into gear easily at cold start. I'm just wondering what gearbox oil do you guys recommend using. I've done some research and found the Penrite 70w-75 seems to be a popular one instore but also noticed that Ford recommends Dexron iii. I'm kind of confused as the Dexron iii seems to be for automatic transmissions, am I missing something or is the oil compatible with both manual and auto? Cheers for the help.

Hi all. Wondering if anyone can cofirm the differences between the tr6060 turbo and n/a 6spd gearboxes. Have read they are the same apart from first gear ratio. Was also told from the wrecker selling the na box that flywheel and clutch also differ. Thanks

Folks, looking for recommendations for good transmission repair (or replace) mechanic in Sydney. 2006 BF turbo with 114k on it, terrible when cold, takes off ok, then when it "takes up", feels like it slips, then often a nasty clonk when going into gear. Settles down when warm but still not 100%. Have visited dealer 3 times, changed oil, done software, reset but same result. Recommended replace with refurb, 6k drive in drive out but thought I'd check the traps first as I reckon that's probably the quick and easy fix which I understand however reckon going direct to trans expert might save a few bucks.

Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on what this could have been. Stock standard 2012 FG XR6T MKII, ZF auto, 38,000KM Rolling over a give way into a 100kph zone I floored it and when it shifted into second gear there was a very very loud bang / thud from the gearbox. It continued to drive fine, so slowed down and floored it again but this time it shifted fine into second, and hasn't done it since. I'm wondering if I should service the transmission, its only done 38,000KM but is 5 year old oil in there?

I have a 06 6 speed manual xr6 turbo. Over the past 3 months odd it has developed a huge gear lash noise at low rpm sub 1500, and is worse in the lower gears. Gearbox fluid was done probably 12 months ago. Has the usual rattle at idle which disappears with clutch pressure but I cant get rid of this noise even holding clutch pressure unless I accelerate extremely slowly. Any ideas? has anyone run a friction modifier in the oil before as well?

Hey guys, I bought a FG xr6 not long ago, its only do 13000kms, its a year old. Now everytime I turn on the car and its "cold" I hear a little click/rattling sound coming from straight above the manual gear stick. its like krrrrrrrr. Honest start with "k" and a long "r". When I push the clutch in and the car not in any gears its stops, when I release the clutch it starts again. When the cars in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear and the rpm is between 0-1200rmp its shakes/rattles like something inside is really really loose. But when I change gears in higher rpm the sounds not there just about 1900rpm no sounds. When I drive up my driveway that's when you can notice it a lot because its in lower rpm and going up almost a mountain it laterally sounds like a diesel truck shaking. I took it to ford about 4 times, they keep tell me its a truck gear box it normal sounds like that...the sound can be so loud sometimes my friends asked me a few times, is this a v8....and a girl with a full exhaust on a swift could hear it when we were leaving the lights (shes a ford fan ) Ford also said its some heat shield that's loose... but they charged me 400 for a service and said they fixed it but as soon as I left the car park I heard it. I love this car with my life, nothing wrong with it only thing I could be worried about the massive "BOOM" sound that comes from the diff when I change a at 6500rpm when im driving with a little spirit. What do I do...I told ford they keep telling me its a truck gear box or a heat shield.. I was told by a guy who works on super cars that either the teeth or sinks in the gear box are loose or something else is very loose inside. And this noise has been with the car ever since the day I drove it out of the dealership brand new. Being my first car I ever bought and first RWD, I thought it was normal. Any ideas?...Should I take it to someone to check it up and then tell ford hey wtf?

So the 5spd manual gearbox in my BA xr6t popped out of 3rd today and started making horrendous clunking noises as I limped it home. It seems I still have all gears but the noise is pretty bad. Looks like I will be paying Mal a visit. I live about 2hrs away so I'm tossing up trying to limp it out there but would hate to lose all gears and be stranded... What do you guys reckon? will she hold together if I try not to load it up too much?

I'm doing some research into upgrading my BA turbo's transmission to the 6 speed manual and I'm not sure where to start or who's reputable in the VIC south eastern suburbs. What's a rough price for the full conversion? does the diff and clutch need to be replaced as well? Any advice would be appreciated
