Hey guys, I’ve bought a basically stock FG turbo, 6 speed auto, and it has low compression in cylinder one and a rough idle. Leak down test indicates rings are shot. Anyway I have been going through various rebuild options and they are all either expensive or half a job or I do the rebuild myself as my first try. Anyway, I am looking at buying a long motor (street torquer 550) straight from ATOMIC which costs about 14k, which was roughly the same as a rebuild from TBRE which is local here in Toowoomba where I live. Does anyone have one of these engines? I can’t find much info and no reviews anywhere. I’ve read on another post they can be noisy, forged Pistons etc. but some people say the timing chain is also noisy but the Pistons are so loud people have sold their new atomic engine.. so any advice would be great. I will be using the car as a daily to and from work and on lunch breaks for short runs etc. also a few runs at the track but mostly street use. Intentions of adding Pulsar Gtx3582 or 4(opinions please), 50mm gate, antz stage 2 piping and turbo side intake, it already has autotecnica big cooler, 3.5 or 4” turbo back exhaust, 1000cc injectors, walbro 460, sx-f fuel reg, oil cooler and trans cooler both thermosatted, has a new Fenix rad and atomic thermostat I put on, I am going to do 4x DBA T3 rotors and NS400 pads plus Toyo Proxes T1 Tyres. Total spend including car is about 35k plus tune at FORCED PERFORMANCE (maybe $1500), would this be considered good value for money? And I’m hoping for a reliable 500-600hp what do you think? Thanks Heaps Fellas! -Callum

My 04' BA ute used to be the pride of chiptorque on the gold coast, and has been around for a long time by 4 different owners. I managed to track down the owners and get an idea of the history. I bought the car making 743rwhp (554rwkw) on E85, and 606rwhp (452rwkw) on pump98, but was in very sad shape. Maintenance had been neglected, needed ball joints, tyres, rackends, oil leak repairs, misfiring badly, sh*t matt black territory rims, 2 layers of tint darker than 5%, etc etc The car was running a Direct Clutch twin plate button, great clutch, but was taking its toll on me around town (car accident injuries).. After replacing the concentric slave, and master cylinder twice I had enough, and converted it to auto. After the conversion, took it out to Willowbank Raceway and promptly melted number 5 piston, which is found out through the previous owners, this is the 3rd time (still ran 11.3 on low boost, on 5 cylinders, backing off just after half track). Time for another rebuild. Going through the older dyno sheets, I found that the AFR's were as lean as 13.6:1 with thanks to 80lb injectors maxed out. So, I'm BACK! I finally decided it was time to mod the old girl. I dropped my '10 F6 that has 160,000km on the clock into ASG Motorsports on the Gold Coast for Aaron to finish what I started, and tune the old girl. I did the following... Tog 4" exhaust 460 intank pump 1125cc injectors Plaz 1000hp cooler kit Plaz Cai Plaz Battery relo Ported exhaust housing 12.5psi actuator Hi-Flow thermo ASG did the following... Turbo Oil feed line Tranny cooler ZF steel pan and service Plaz HD valve springs Then we encountered a problem. My exhaust cam was rooted. The usual FG wear, so I decided to go Atomic Stage 4. We've had some discussion (aaron my tuner, and I) and seeing as though the car has 160,000 on the clock and we've put HD valve springs in, now might be a good time to replace the cam chain, tensioner & sprocket. Seeing as though the front cover needs to come off to do this, we're going to do the oil pump gears too. Whats peoples thoughts on anything else being done while it's apart? The only other thing I can think of was maybe head studs, in case I decide to push the power up in the future?

Hi all, reasonably new to this group but having dramas with my fg. Car is an fg with a built 698 atomic engine with about 50000km on it. It started off dropping number 5 cylinder with a fault code suggesting it was coils, changed coils same problem. Got a new computer and loaded my files onto it and it was fixed... For about half an hour then dropped 5 again. After that You could start it up and it would run on sequential injection for the first 10 seconds then immediately drop number 5 again. So we decided maybe we would do the imjector harness. So we replaced that and got another new computer and loaded files onto it. At last she ran on all 6, even dynoed it and all again. Then without warning its dropped number 1 cylinder, with fault codes pointing to coil windings, swapped coils but number one has nothing. Doesn't even run on 6 when first started. That brings us to today. Starts and runs on 5 cylinders. I'm at breaking point and any help would be appreciated files onto it and it was fixed... For about half an hour then dropped 5 again.
