So I thought I'd start a quick build thread for my work hack that I'm planning on running in the Super Street drags here in Perth since I don't really have enough money to finish my proper drag ute (Datsun 1200 with a 13B turbo). For anyone connected with drag racing, it is Ben Brays old ute that ran an SR20 back in the day. It'll probably take as long as Tocchi's Crapi to be finished - they soak up so much money at the level I've jumped in at......LOL So I hunted around for a decent FG/FG2 turbo ute and found what I was after and traded in my Ranger for it. Running your own business has got to have a few perks at least! As above, plan is to compete in Super Street and Fast Fridays at the Motorplex, so I need to get the ute running a consistent mid to high 11's preferably - I shouldn't need to lean on the car to much to achieve that I hope. Having a turbo will be a bit of a disadvantage when running to a dial in, but its cheaper to get the turbo ute up to speed than an SS ute and be a nicer car to daily. So it came with some good bits and some rubbish bits. The good: F6 intercooler, PW intecooler piping, reset leaves, lowered springs, battery relocation. The bad: a crappy turbo side DIY cold air intake, removed rear muffler (but the replacement section bangs the diff now), stock brakes are shuddering sh*t heaps, 4 different sh*t tyres. It also has the BOV capped and it pigeons like a demon - being an old bastard that doesn't need the attention I'll be replacing the BOV to hush it up. I've baselined it at the Plex on WAW and run 13.2 - 13.4 at 107ish mph. The car just doesn't feel like it has anything left to give at 170km/h, like its hit the wall or something. So I sorted out some immediate bits - brake discs all replaced for slotted versions, upgraded the rear solid disc to a bigger ventilated disc and bigger Tezza single piston caliper, new fluid and braided lines. Put new tyres on (Nitto NT05 245's all round) and that made an immediate difference in grip and bye bye shudder......... So now I'm collecting bits, so far I've got a plazmaman airbox, cast throttle body replacement, GFB bov, walbro 255, turbosmart wastegate actuator and a 2013 F6 GT3582r. Left on my shopping list before I sort out a tune is TBE exhaust, stage 1 or 2 PW or plazmaman intercooler, 1000cc injectors, valve springs and a flapper mod. Probably replace the rear end bushes, the saddles looked average when it was on the hoist getting brakes sorted. Debating whether or not to get a bigger drop in pump than the Walbro, possibly an E85 compliant version like the KPM streetfighter. Should get me to where I need to be.......and then some if I decide to push it harder. Hopefully the diff and gearbox stay in one piece.
