I'll be the first to admit I know nothing about oils. Over time past I've read countless posts on changing the oil in the T or what oil to use in the T etc etc. Ford recommend a 15W-40 oil is used in the XR6T so can someone for once and all explain to me why everyone is changing to different grades and brands? What wrong with using the recommend grade? And I'm assuming that the brand is a matter of personal preference rather than anything else, no?

If there's one thing I've learned from this forum it that the quality of the cars is a very individual thing, the members here have anything from a faultless car right through to a absolute lemon, whatever the brand. It's the luck of the draw in my opinion, the only thing you can do is hope that it doesn't happen to you. For the record my brother in law has a VX SS with 66,000km on it and it's faultless, it doesn't use any oil, it doesn't rattle and it's still on it's first set of tyres which have plenty of life left and they're wearing evenly also. So that just goes to show that everybody makes good and bad ones.

I once read an article in motor mag where they were talking to some big wig at Subaru and he said that they would prefer that you used regular unleaded if nothing else was available than add an octance booster because certain components of the booster can have a negative effect on the car. Just out of interest do you mean adding the octance booster to regular unleaded or premium?

The point I'm trying to make nothing to do with the two cars, which one is quicker or which one is better it's purely a comparison of kilowatts and the different methods they use to measure them. Dagabond since those post were directed at me would it be possible for me only to see them as they were removed before I logged back on?

Dummy terms!! Let me explain it to you mate. I'm talking about engine power, KILOWATTS! What the hell does that have to do with which is the fastest car! By the way a SS (245kW) and a GT (290 kW) are not about the same power, the HSV clubsport is more like the GT. As I stated before I am talking about engine kW's the weight of the car does not affect this in anyway! Someone help me here!!!

Don't know anything about the MTEC globes but I fitted Arctic Blue globes to my old car and found the light to be very white but in wet and dark conditions it almost looked as though I was driving around with my lights off and the globes only lasted six months so I went back to the Plus 30's or 50's can't remember now and was much happier with the all round performance and they last alot longer and are half the price. As I said I know nothing about the MTEC's, just sharing my experience, hope everything goes well for you DavoXT.

Yes the T can run on regular but Ford recommend you use premium, and why not I say it's only a few cents more

What does the weight of the car have to do with the number of kW's it has? As far as I'm aware kW's is a measurement of engine power only.

You can drive a turbo car in Victoria on your P's as long as it's within the 3.5l per tonne or 125kW per tonne, in the XR6T you are well within the 3.5l per tonne but screwed by the 125kW per tonne though. However, there are loop holes in the rule that may allow you to keep drivin your T. Taken from the VIcRoads website You may drive a high powered car if your employer requires you to drive it in the course of your employment, or if you hold an exemption issued by VicRoads. VicRoads will only grant an exemption if: • it is the only car owned by your family • the car is used for business as well as social use and no other non high powered car is owned by your family. Applications for a high powered vehicle exemption must be made in person at a VicRoads office. Exemptions are for a nominated vehicle and must be carried at all times.

I don't think it matters to much between 95 octane premium and 98 octane such as optimax etc. Where I am I can't get 98 octane fuel so I use mobil 95 octane, I've tried 4 or 5 tanks of optimax when tripping away but didn't notice any difference. Would never use regular unleaded though when premium is always 92.9 to 95.9 here.

It's a bit hard to make out but there doesn't appear to be a red turbo badge on the back either! If they only drove the NA and they think that goes they would love the T!

Are you saying that you could see a sticker on the bonnet protector but you didn't have enough time to spot the massive bulge in the bonnet if it was an XR8?! Interesting though, even though this site is for everyone I don't know whether I would put a sticker saying fordxr6turbo.com on an XR8!

The ad on this site says "in any of the Ford BA range of vehicles". Does that mean that they have some kind of upgrade for the guys who have only standard or prestige sound like me a poor little ute driver? Even just an upgrade in the stereo system would be good without all the sat nav etc bits and pieces. Any info would be appreciated, I've looked on their site but I couldn't find anything.

I'll make one thing clear, I'm a ford fan, I love em to bits! But if there is one area where Expensive Daewoo out does ford everytime it's in their TV ads, holdens are so much better than the ford ones. I was very interested to see the GT ad but was dissappointed when I did, like all the ford ads (except maybe the original XR6T ad with the Merc silver sedan) it doesn't give anything to get excited about, the boom gate lets the GT through big deal! And Expensive Daewoo has the theme of the young person growing up thoughout their ads with more excitment. Ford may have the better car but Expensive Daewoo do a better job of promoting the commodore. Just one nuts opinion

I think you are getting a little confused between Ford Motor Company and Ford Dealers, everything you are saying is in respect to the dealers, if you have a bad salesperson go somewhere else! If you have trouble getting warranty issues sorted out go somewhere else! You can't say that all dealerships are like that just because they sell Ford vehicles, sure there are bad dealers that need a lesson in customer service but on the other hand there are some really good one, and that goes for any brand of car!

So they're making it through the pre-delivery at your dealership aswell then?

The gear ratios are posted on the Ford website, as for the rod length, valve timing etc I think you might have to talk to a Ford dealer or someone here that works for Ford, send a PM to FORDTECH he might be able to help you.

Even though I'm not going on the Ford/FPV tour after reading all these posts I felt the need to congratulated and thank Cro for massive effort he has put in to make this event a reality on behalf of not only the lucky members who can attend the tour but everyone here at FordXR6Turbo.com. It's a credit to Cro who has obviously put in alot of time and effort to organise the biggest FordXR6Turbo.com event ever despite not being able to attend the event himself. Anybody that went to the Melbourne APS day will know what I'm talking about. APS were in the process of modifying a XR6T ute hoping to be the first XR6T to run a 10 second bracket 1/4 mile at calder park a couple of week after the information day. Now I know that at the time of the calder park meet the ute wasn't quite finished, I think the NOS kit hadn't turned up yet from memory. It's now been 5 to 6 weeks since that calder park meet and I've read posts about the Nizpro car being at calder but as yet nothing on the APS ute. I was wondering if anyone knows if the ute did actually eventually run at calder or anywhere else at a later stage or if it's still under development and testing?

Two very different cars their only association is the turbo, WRX vs XR6T is hardly a comparative battle, little all wheel drive pocket rocket vs large family size rear wheel drive sedan. As sixfan said the XR6T's development is only just starting whereas the WRX has plenty of modifying behind it. I think an APS Phase II kit would safely see you home if you really had to beat em!

Mine was leaking from the minute it rolled off the truck and wasn't fixed when they did the PD, they thought it was assembly oil. The leak was coming from a servo cover on the passenger side of the transmission. shortly after that it started leaking again but this time from the pipe that feeds the oil cooler, the end had split where the pipe goes into the tranny housing. Now everything fixed and 7000km later no hassles!
