ok, so I have an update on mine. Today I jacked her up and had a look underneath. The exhaust looked like it was hanging pretty close to chassy and diff and it moved a lot (up and down). The mechanic actually told me that the exhaust had been checked and there was no prob? In his defence, it did suddenly start knocking again after a trip to the coast. Anyway, I cable tied the rear muffler and the centre muffler tighter upwards for less movement. Second thing I saw was the bottom of both shock absorbers had small damage where a protruding bolt was very close when jacked up must have been hitting constantly whilst driving. I taped some soft rubber foam between the gap. Now when I drive her there is absolutely NO knocking at all. I will obviously look at more permanent solutions in the future, but in the interim they should hold up and continue to work, The handbrake cable theory sounds plauisble too because when mine WAS kocking, I could feel the vibrations through the handbrake although I did not touch my handbrake and the knock is gone... Hope this solves it for you.

I have similar thing in my 07 bf f6 sedan. It's lowered with adjustable coilovers and I have had everything checked and apparently all the bushes etc are fine. I have a squishy squeek sound when the car goes over every bump (apparently that's rubber suspension bushes after you have lowered car?) but I also have a metal on metal knock sounds which is really loud, constant as I'm driving and I can feel through the handbrake and through the floor above the driveline area like it vibrates through the car. Maybe mine is exhaust??? I don;t know though because it just happened all of a sudden and I'd already had exhaust mounts bent to stop it touching the diff last service... Also had diff and control blade bushes replaced. These weird noises in these cars are starting to annoy the sh*t out of me... I love falcons but I also hate them! Any further updates on yours???

Will do. I actually have two ideas after some further research. a) Could be wheel bearings since I have lost traction on more than a few occasions and done a drift day. I will get them looked at when changing the bushes. b) Could be the new tyres. I have kumho ecstas which I have been told are good but noisy. SHould be getting things done in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned.

Hi guys, I'm hoping this is a brakes issue or something related. Car is 2007 BF2 typhoon with 40,000km. Just recently I've started noticing a groning/droning noise (don't laugh at my explanation lol) which echoes through the car every so often whilst slowing down about approx 10% of the time. The majority of the time is under brakes at lower speeds when coming to a halt, however, it is sometimes apparent whilst slowing down without applying brakes which worries me. Sounds like it comes from the rear end. For your info, my rear end bushes are gone and I'm replacing them in the next few weeks. There is no issues accelerating or any other driveline issue evident other than the diff clunk due to bushes. Brakes look good. Any ideas? Cheers!

Does Bigger Intercooler = Retune Necessary
ZelchXR6T replied to ZelchXR6T's topic in Intercooler Workshop
Thanks guys. Intreresting points from both sides. I might just be safe rather than sorry and wait untill I am ready to retune until I go bolting more performance parts on. Cheers Henz, I didn't know that the dyno can overstate the power figures. -
Does Bigger Intercooler = Retune Necessary
ZelchXR6T replied to ZelchXR6T's topic in Intercooler Workshop
Yes, unless the figures on the chart lie... They did 3 tunes, the top two both over 300rwkw. See attached image. The air/fuel ratios are good too. Extreme Street Performance in Queanbeyan NSW performed the tune. Grant does plenty xr and typhoons and the car has no spikes or issues to report after running this power for approx 4,000kms. So the consensus is a retune. Cheers guys, I will definitely consider this prior to making any more mods. -
Hi Guys, My BF2 F6 is currently running standard intercooler and piping. The car has been flashed with the stock cooler/exhaust so I was wondering if I replace the standard intercooler with a bolt on larger core intercooler (stock piping) would I need a retune or will the computer learn it? From my limited knowledge I'd think not because its a variable that is regulalrly controlled by the outdoor temperature anyway. Just wanted to double check. Also, what if I added a dump pipe and high flow cat to the equation? I've been running considerably high power for some time now (at 323rwkw) with just larger injectors and want to cool things down and increase flow etc so that I don't lose out on hot days but don't have the bank balance to go all out thanks to upcoming replacement of some dead rear end bushes... :( Your help would be appreciated! Cheers!

No, its an auto. Extreme Street Performance in Queanbeyan. They have tuned a lot of these and have some tricks to make good reliable power on stock set ups that comes on nicely. Question, will the fitment of a bigger aftermarket intercooler, dump pipe and high flow cat always = need for new tune or is the ecu capable of learning the increased ability to breathe?
-
My BF2 typhoon made 323rwkw with just k&n panel filter, injectors and tune. Also had a gearbox tune done. Everything else is stock, including cat. Boost comes on nicely so far far so good.

Slight Clicking Sound On Acceleration And Shift
ZelchXR6T replied to ZelchXR6T's topic in Driveline Workshop
Yeah, 100%. I was driving around last night and today and listening carefully and there's a click now most of the time when gears change. I don't recall hearing this before other than when I used to put it into reverse, once it engages gear. The other weird clinging noise has not reapeared since Friday night after driving it hard. Hoping that this is just a normal weird ford noise. Bloody fords, always doing some weird sh*t to make you worry! -
Slight Clicking Sound On Acceleration And Shift
ZelchXR6T replied to ZelchXR6T's topic in Driveline Workshop
Cheers, although that's an odd diagnosis... where's your's coming from, front or rear? Mine sounds like it's coming from the front half of the car. I said it sound like a metalic noise but now that I think of it, it's more like a clink similar to when you drag a cermaic tile or tap it against the ground. I looked up a youtube video for clunking axle and it sounds nothing like what I can hear. The thing that worries me is that it's on take off and change from 1st to 2nd (although only occasionaly). -
Hi guys, Ive been searching the driveline threads but can't seem to find what I am looking for. I'm basically new to this even though I joined a long tie ago (sold the old xr6t ages ago and just bought typhoon). I own a 2007 BF2 typhoon with the ZF6 auto. It has 38,000kms and have had the ZF tune for approx 2000kms (325rwkw). Just like most others, I have the same diff bush thud issues and alos experience the delayed downshift to 1st gear when going up driveway or rolling to a stop and accelerating just before I stop. These are annoying issues but I have adjusted my driving style to suit. The issue I'd like to raise is an odd clink, almost light metalic type sound that is occasionally noticeable when moderately accelerating from a stationary position and sometimes heard when shift from 1st to 2nd gear is made. Yesterday after giving the car a bit of a hard with a full car load taking some guys to a formal and doing a few o-100km/h high rpm shifts and a burnout in manual mode it was more prevalent. Has anyone experienced this? I don't know what it is, there I no whining noises or anything like that. The guys at ESP performance said that the car was one of the best condition they've had in the shop and was very smooth and like new so I doubt I could have done any severe damage in 2000kms as I don't always drive it hard. Cheers, Zeljko

Thanks mate Yeah, CV's weren't something that I thought about much until it just happened. Apparently mine went because my car is so low at the back , and this caused unnnecessary stress on the components (ball cage etc). Theres a few threads on the site regarding stronger CV's that would be worth a read. Of the top of my head I only know the power is 325rwkw. Not sure on torque. Power curve is pretty rapid though.
-
Rebuilt the T5. I found out that it was a clip that broke that caused me to lose 5th, and apparently the box was in really good condition. They seem to think that the power had nothing to do with it even though they shouldn't be able to cope that power! Couldn't afford the T56, anyways, I'm still selling the car.
-
Thanks guys, Will do. I have a mate whos a mechanic coming to have a look this arvo and will probably fix it this week. I need it back for Bathurst!!! lol! Unless it's something more major, I should be right!
-
Hey, nah, shouldn't be gearbox related. Just got box back. Nah, no more warranty. I was just hoping that it's not the actual diff itself, and now that I jacked it up and it's only doin it on the left side I think it's definately the CV and/or drive shaft. Was it a big job to replace them in the GT, or does it only involve taking the wheels and discs off and replacing the parts?
-
I just jacked the car up and when I free spin the left wheel theres a grinding noise coming from the left CV, but when I spin the rightr wheel there is no noises. Could I be pretty certain in saying that the left CV is gone, and because of this, when the left wheel tries to drive when on the ground, because it is farked, the right wheel will also not drive because of the way a LSD works?
-
Hey guys, Yesterday when boost came on in second gear I heard a loud explosion from the rear and suddenly there was no drive in gears, just a loud grinding sort of sound. The car rolled to a stop, but there was no noise coming from the rear while it was rolling in neutral. Now, when I blew a diff once upon a time in a EA falcon, it even made noises while rolling in neutral. I'm hoping that it's just the CV's. Will try have a better look today, but it's really hard to have a good look under there as everything is well hidden. I hate going home on tow trucks! lol!
-
I was overtaking on the highway and when boost hit in 5th there was a massive bang! I'm still limping around on the first four gears but I don't want to for long because of risk of damaging other gears. Thanks for all the posts guys, and to those that said I told you so, I admit defeat, but I won't say that it's a crap gearbox, just not the best as it has taken a beating in other gears even after I got new tyres and sorted the traction issues. I might go with the fix, strip and sell option if I can't get a good deal on t56 conversion. Who would be the best to see in Canberra for fixing the t5???
-
Hey everyone, As I was driving back home from the coast yesterday, I finally popped a gear in my t5 box. The funny thing is that it was 5th gear to go, and running 325rwkw for 3 months that's the only gear ive managed to destroy. The box has served me well, but now it's time to do one of three things... 1) Rebuild t5 with stronger gears etc 2) Convert to t56 3) Sell the car to someone with a good offer for them to fix Who knows of anyone near Canberra or even in Sydney who can supply box and other items necessary for conversion (preferably cheapest options?) If you know someone, or you are selling a t56 what can we negotiate? Otherwise, If anyone is interested, or knows someone who is interested in buying the car let me know and we can negotiate that. (Car still drives perfectly in 1st to 4th gear) I won't go lower than $24000, as there is over $10000 worth of work done, and the whole car is mechanically A1 except for gearbox.
-
the car is running crow valve spring, high flow injectors, walbro fuel pump, hybrid intercooler, ss inductions growler kit etc. Clutch is extreme heavy duty and tyres are hard compound. That's why they don't stick so much all the time. I'm not bragging, I'm just stating the fact that it's still working perfectly. And if it's the wheel spin, so be it.... I'm still enjoying it. And finally.... If she blows, that's my problem, not anyone elses. So cheers to guys who are giving me good words. People saying ive jinxed myself don't relize that I don't 2 f*#ks if she blows. It's bound to happen... but just when is the question. Ive got an idea for those who want to be big shots.... put some money on it and start a betting forum to guess when it will blow
-
Hey guys, look.... I don't want to sound cocky or anything, but I'm going to have to say I told you so when I first said that I didn't think my T5 would blow in the time frame a few members quoted. Ive been running the race tune of 325rwkw nonstop for the last 6 weeks, and have been driving the thing hard, with absolutely no problems in shift, no noise and hardly any missed third gears, except for one when I tried to absolutley smash it into gear when showin a mate how she will snap thirds and still be sideways more than 100 metres down the road!!! lol! Although the car gets hardly any traction in the top end, when I have been lucky to stick to the road such prized victories have been over skyline, VE HSV GTS, typhoon, and porsche 911. Now guys out there that are scared to run high power through the T5, don't be. It's worth the risk rather than spending the big bucks up front, because ive heard stories on here, but to be honest, everyone that I personally know that have run high power through them have had a good run! and most never blew. happy boosting! P.s- to anyone that wants to have a go at me for praising the t5, don't bother, because only I drive my car, and I know that its been a good gearbox to me.
-
Thanks for your replies guys. I believe the clutch is cerametalic, so hopefully that is what noise is. You guys are really scaring me with the gearbox, but I'm going to see how long it lasts, and don't jinx me because I do know of T5's that have stood the test for a good amount of time. I went for a long drive yesterday and didn't hear any noises and had no problems with changing gears except for the occasional crunch into 5th that many people have complained about, and which sucks! Also, last but not least, there is and ED falcon that I knew off last year running 10 second quarter's on a T5 with only clutch and flywheel upgrade I believe, so I'm still hoping . happy driving
-
As you can see on the dyno sheet it's only a couple of days old. The clutch is an extreme heavy duty. The thing is that I've been hearing that weird noise for a few months even before the tune, but to be honest I dont think it is the gearbox. I decided I am going to risk it and maybe put to rest a lot of these T5 theories, as yes... there are a lot of guys that will say that they are weak, but I have also talked to many guys that have high powered XR's running T5's saying I shouldn't even worry. After all, s#*t can happen to anything, and I'm very under conservative! LOL! Believe me when I say that I will not be smashing through gears though! I always go for the underdog, and in this case it's the T5. Still, if anyone can help me in terms of the weird sound I am hearing, please do. thanks

Hey guys, I'm a long time reader, and first time writer to the forums. I have a T5 in my xr6T, and I have noticed for a few months now that when I am taking off and/or reversing and letting out the clutch while accelerating, there is a short sound coming from underneath the car like the sound of a brick or paver being drag across each other. This sound is making me very paranoid and I was wondering if anyone had this prob or knows what it could be? recently heard it downshifting into 2nd, but everything else seems to be fine, and there are no whining noises coming from gearbox itself. Also, can RIP shifters be bought for the T5, and would this help the 2nd to 3rd shift and the 5th to 3rd? Your help would be much appreciated
