  1. that's good to hear. There were times, reading that article, where I didn't want to read anymore, it made me that sick to the stomach. But everything you've said so far sounds great... (apart from the weekend and holiday work, but that's ok)... Are there any other dealership employees on the XR6T boards?
  2. car stickers hehe
  3. Was doing some research and found this article, by a writer in the states who went undercover as a car salesman. I'm hoping the industry is a little different here as it is there, because what they do over there is shocking to say the least... have a read: http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying/artic...62/article.html Thanks Senna_t... that info is great. Invaluable. I've haven't worked in the motor industry directly, but have experience with personal finance with a main background in insurance (sales, service, compliance, claims in both domestic and commercial risk), worked for a little while with the CBA and organised personal loans for clients purchasing vehicles.. Nothing too complicated (compared to fleet or leasing), but its a start. I wouldn't mind getting into straight car sales either as a complete change... if you can make decent money without having to be a tossbag. hehe
  4. Don't get me wrong. I'm not a staunch Labor supporter... I'm one of those 'pesky' swing voters hehe Whoever has the best policies wins my vote. Couldn't care less about who they are, what name they have, or what 'face' they've picked as their leader. I completely disagree with the alcopop tax, I think its a waste of time and money. Its a ridiculous idea to think that young drinkers would just stop drinking if breezers and UDLs etc are more expensive... whatever... they'll just buy straight liquor and mix it themselves, which is more dangerous! As for the luxury tax... I agree with it in principle. But don't agree with the $57k threshold. Since when was a $57k vehicle automatically classed as a 'luxury vehicle'. There's a ton of average new vehicles out there for the price. Raise the threshold to say $85k at the least and I'd be happy with those buyers paying extra tax... (there's barely any fords or FPV's at that price range )
  5. haha... actually, I don't have many friends lol... My partying days are over I'm afraid, especially since I moved from melbourne to qld. I'm a family man now (whether I like it or not!), so working Saturday isn't really a problem, as long as I'd get a day off in lieu so I can still spend time with my family. Is that commonplace? Another question (sorry...), do you find that finance/insurance guys are recruited externally, or do car salesman get promoted to that position?
  6. Thanks for the Info Senna_T and ms700. Its actually quite a relief to hear from people working in the car sales industry who treat their potential clients with respect and honesty. I've found that being transparent, honest, unbiased and informative sells more in the long run than being pushy and/or untruthful. People can sense bullsh!t very very quickly, and to be honest, I get absolutely NO satisfaction from obtaining new business if its obtained by being unethical. I can't quite understand how people could... maybe I'm not a natural salesman? Im not sure I guess another question of mine would be, what are the general expectations of a finance/insurance manager at a new car dealership? Are they expected to obtain a certain percentage of new business per car sale? I'm guessing that's how it works. Are they expected to make phone calls and harrass clients that have registered their interest in buying a vehicle? I have another question... and this might be a bit personal, so only answer this if you're comfortable, but are most car salesman paid commission + very low base rate (ie $10 p/hr)? What kind of commission is paid per sale? Does the % of commission paid increase if the sale amount is higher (eg.. over $50k)? Any info would be great... but thanks again for the info so far!
  7. Thanks for the info MS. I'm sure as more info comes up, so will more questions!
  8. The majority of the population voted for those laws because Labor won the election. Quite easily when you consider the swinging vote. Unfortunately, once we've voted for a party, we can't then nominate which policies of theirs we agree and disagree with. You vote labor, you vote for all of their policies. And yes, the alcopop and luxury car tax were policies announced prior to the last election. Regardless of whether you agree with the policies or not, it's extremely irresponsible (and unethical) for an opposition to deny a mandated policy.
  9. lol... there goes my monthly download limit. Nice ride btw... Extremely jealous. I'm loving the FG interiors... They look much more ergonomic.
  10. Because I have a passion with cars, and an employment background in finance/insurance, I'm thinking of combining the two and I'm considering finance/insurance manager roles in new car dealerships. I'm hoping that some people in the know can let me know what its like to work in that kind of environment. Car salesman generally have a bad reputation for being wankers and drop kicks, but what is it really like to work alongside car salesman in a dealership. Also, do Sales managers normally pressure their staff to make a sale, regardless of customer service ethics and 'doing the right thing by the client'? I have quite strong professional morals, and I could not be happy in a role that required me to 'rip off' customers, and not provide an honest service, or even work alongside people with that type of philosophy... Anyway... any info from people who work or have worked in that environment would be great... Particularly in the insurance/finance type role. Thanks Dave
  11. Funny that you are all having a go at Labor. If anything, I'm p!ssed at the Liberals for not allowing Labor to pass a law that is mandated. That law (along with Alcopops) was one of the things labor voters voted for, and now the Liberals (and one self important independant) are denying what the majority of the population voted for. How is that democracy?
  12. 3" inlet is ok, as the stock exhaust piping linking up to it is 3" isn't it? As for the inlet for the rear muffler, can't an exhaust shop just put a 2>1 joiner before the muffler? I only want to get a metal core cat though... aren't these xforce cat's metal core? I assumed they were because they make good quality stuff.
  13. Hey everyone, I'm going to replace my cat at some stage, because my T has done around 150,000kms and its probably due for a replacement. The exhaust itself seems ok, but while im at it, have been thinking about replacing my rear muffler with a twin outlet type. Saw these on Ebay... What does everybody think? Will these weld onto the stock system? and will it be ok? I'm looking for increased flow at least from the cat. Not worried so much about the rear muffler, as long as it doesn't sound farty. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/XFORCE-EURO-exhaust...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/XFORCE-high-flow-ca...1QQcmdZViewItem Trying to find out how that XFORCE cat flows too. Any opinions would be great
  14. Completely agree mate... but your post didn't sound 'funny'... I guess its hard to pick up tone and intention in text.
  15. Sounds interesting... Is there any study or apprenticeship required? How can I read up more about this? I'd love to have a job with no stress, in the outdoors, not always going to the same place every day to work and make ok money... When you say Tree Lopping... do you just go up trees and cut off branches? Or do you cut whole trees down? (excuse my ignorance!)
  16. Agree... Think that post by MS700 was a bit harsh. Who said he wasn't looking through the papers and making phone calls? There's nothing wrong with asking the question in here too, and expecting helpful responses.
  17. Well I've noticed at high boost/revs the car flutters like hell and it drives me nuts... Maybe the high pressure is pushing the coil out coz there's no rubber there???
  18. Hey guys, as the thread title says, when I was changing my spark plugs, a number of the little rubbers fell off, and at the time I didn't think anything of it. In another thread, I read that the rocker cover garnish holds the coils in... but without my rubbers, does that mean my coils aren't being held in properly? I'm thinking of buying a new set of coils anyway... do they come with the rubbers? Or do I have to buy them seperately? Any help would be great!
  19. I dislike my job too. I work in insurance, both commercial and domestic. Not because its terrible... its actually quite "pleasant". (And no im not a manwhore. hehe) But I've done the same type of work for 5 years now, and just want to do something DIFFERENT. I've done claims, underwriting, compliance, customer service & sales... But I just want to do something ELSE I sit at work, going from task to task, client to client, and I struggle to keep awake. I have no interest in what I'm doing, I get no reward or satisfaction other than my pay every two weeks. Some people say I should just be happy that I don't hate my job. But surely there must be something out there that I'd enjoy. I've been considering getting into the motor industry... maybe in new car sales? Or finance/insurance in a dealership or something. I dunno...
  20. Yeah it was a great day... My first cruise, and everyone was friendly and I now know theres nothing better than driving through some twisties to the sounds of turbo's spooling up!! Thanks Phantomchic for organising the day, couldn't have done it without ya. And thanks for the UHF radio too! As for fuel consumption... I almost went through a whole tank of 98 RON from Gym.. (sorry... sunshine coast) and back.
  21. I'll take whatever I can get! UHF that is..
  22. Same here... I don't have a UHF radio. If someone can bring a spare it'd be much appreciated! Getting excited now... And kinda nervous, Im a cruise virgin.
  23. What a fkkn w@nker. And he's a car salesman! haha I honestly hate people who are like that. Why say those sorts of things... I don't get it?
  24. Something comfortable, that gives you a smile when you give it some, and doesn't make you look like a knob. Electric everything and a decent sound system helps as well. Build quality is a big thing with me... Don't ask why I bought a Ford.
  25. I'm starting to worry coz my coils and/or cat are fkkd.. Car still goes, but goes like sh*t under heaps of boost. Should still be good though!
