  1. As far as adding a larger upper snorkel and the lower F6 'Phoon snorkel, it was pretty easy and shouldn't cause you too much grief. I'm no handy man..only an avearge bloke with common sense (and one who never rushes into anything until I've had a good think about it - procrastination is my best ally!) The larger upper intake I got straight of Ebay and went in with no dramas. The lower snorkel I bought from a Ford dealer for around $80.00 (bit expensive for a piece of hard rubber) Using the instructions and dimensions that can be found on another part of this site for cutting a hole in the lower part of the airbox for the lower snorkel, it was reasonbly simple. With the right tools and patience, it was pretty easy as long as you don't go at it like a bull at a gate. The dimensions (and accompanying pictures) as mentioned earlier, if followed accurately, were absolutely spot on. I also added the K&N filter. As this is the only mod I intended to do and haven't done anything else, I have found that my fuel economy has improved and the throttle response is improved. I haven't accurately quantified each improvement but it definitely isn't the classic placebo effect IMHO. For me it was worth the effort.
  2. Fitted the lower snorkel this afternoon and indeed the measurements and instructions provided in the other part of this forum are spot on. I am your average motoring enthusiast punter and not overly mechanically minded...just have common sense...have to say it went together like a charm. Two tips for anyone contemplating fitting the lower snorkel. Fit the lower snorkel into place under the lights first without the air box. But make sure you spray WD40 on outside of the snorkel and it will slide into the gap like knife through butter...otherwise it can be a bit difficult. Then bolt in the air box and push the snorkel into place (third bolt is not that difficult to get to and tighten with the right tools). If you cut the hole in the air box exactly right, the snorkel will go in no worries. Also I guessed that the radius in the corners of the hole in the airbox when you mark it out before cutting was similar size to a five cent piece (I used it as a template). Even though it was fine....I think the size of a ten cent is more accurate. As it says somewhere else in this forum...don't mark and cut out sharp 90deg corners as it will look a bit bodgy. Happy snorkelling!!
  3. Bought my 2006 BF XR6 n/a with 6 speed and premium sound from a dealer with 20,000k in July for $27,000 in immaculate condition. It was listed for 30k the week before I walked in. Turbos usually (correct me if I'm wrong) attract another $3500.00 or so. I think yours is a reasonable deal....but for one reservation.....has it been extensively repaired after a bingle? I only say this as mine was repaired after a large incident with a semi (longer story...but not my fault) and was so well repaired you cannot tell the difference....colour match and everything was almost perfect to the untrained eye. Otherwise price sounds pretty reasonable. I myself had thought of unloading it and getting another if the repairs hadn't been to my satisfaction. Previous owner could have done the same.....I'm only playing devils advocate though.
  4. Don't even think twice....Bionic is a great colour (I myself had to settle for Neo). I believe that some colours really does do heaps for the look of an XR and Bionic is definitely one of them.
  5. Thanks for the tip, just looked at Aussie Gold Showroom Glaze on the net. Sounds good...will send away for some.
  6. For good or bad... I finally put the E30 in yesterday and I can already feel and hear a difference. I'm sure it's not just a placebo effect as you do get to know after a while what your ride sounds and feels like. So I'm sure I'm already feeling the benefits. Go Nulon. Bye the way...I read that the ZF 6 speed transmission is a sealed unit and you can't top it up with something like Nulon Auto Tranny additive. If I'm wrong...can someone tell me where can I pour it into the transmission fluid!!!
  7. I agree, I also use HOT SHINE and it's great, the best I've used so far. I meant that this new ARMOR ALL Wheel Protectant goes straight onto the alloy wheels....not the tyres. Don't use it....it's c**p!
  8. Hey guys I like to try new things as much as the next person...and seeing as I've seen it advertised lately in magazines I thought I would give it try. Simply just leaves a milky white residue on the wheel. Had to wipe it off with a micro fibre cloth as I couldn't stand looking at it anymore. After a good wipe...then it came up looking good....however you are only supposed to spray this stuff on and let it dry. No thanks. When I noticed that this particular product is made in China (enuff said)...it should have rung alarm bells straight away!!! Anyway...I'll leave it up to you...but it's not worth the money...give it a miss. My secret (if you can call it a secret) for cleaning wheels....spray with Polyglaze Waterless Wash...simply wipe the dirt away and then buff with another cloth. The dirt just congeals and easily comes off onto the cloth while wiping way...and a great finish.....childs play!
  9. Thanks all for the continued feedback. I've decided to Nulon (E30 engine treatment) based on my previous experience and your feedback as I know your rides are as precious as mine and wouldn't want to do the wrong thing. This is despite all the negative stories I've read on the net regarding oil additives. Now..as a bit of a side issue.... I have gone to the Castrol site and used thier ready reckoner where you start typing in your vehicle and select your model from the drop down list and then it recommend the most appropriate oil for your car. For mine it came up Magnatech. Now when I did this same sort of thing on the Nulon site, the function (drop down menu..the list of vehicles in order etc. etc.) was suspiciously the same. Can I suspect that there is an alliance of sorts between Castrol and Nulon or do you think that Castrol actually owns all or part of Nulon. Maybe they share the same web developer. This could, say, give Nulon a bit of credibility if associated with Castrol. Also as Castrol's site came up with Magnatech as the recommended oil and Magnatech has that fancy stuff that "clings" to the engine (ala Nulon), is there some sort of synergy going on here. Just a thought.
  10. Thanks guys for the feedback so far. I guess this forum is open to people with negative opinions as well...but haven't read any yet. Surely if some of you guys have had a bad experience with Nulon you would be only too happy to let fly big time and bag the s**t out of them. especially if it had done some harm or damage to your precious ride. Keep the opinions and experiences coming though. It's lookin like Nulon for me.
  11. Hi guys.. Sorry if this topic has been discussed before. Many years ago I used Nulon E30 long term engine treatment and I could really hear and feel a difference which made me really think it worked. Now that I have bought my own BF XR6 n/a, I'm thinking of putting it in. However, I have been reading a lot on the net regarding PTFE based additives and whether they work as claimed or is it just "snake oil", and at worst, bad for your engine in the long run. I know the truth must be out there somewhere! What do you guys think? Do I Nulon or not???
  12. **UPDATE** The alarm is all good now. An educated guess tells me that perhaps the XR's battery was disconnected for quite a time while it was in the panel shop (in fact before starting this post I did notice that the alarm siren sounded like it was winding down when I tried to activate it with the little key thingy...which made me think it may have something to do with no charge in the Mongooses' back-up battery). So anyways...after running the car for a couple of days...everything has come good. Suffice to say...the interior lights not coming on (I changed a blown fuse) had nothing to do with it in this particular case. Thanks for the feedback regarding this post. Hope this goes in future towards answering this problem for anyone else in a similar situation.
  13. Oh yeah...and I'll check those fuses as soon as I get a chance. Just wanted to know whether no interior lights and the alarm sounding when trying to lock the doors had some association?
  14. It is a factory upgrade. If it is an out of sync problem....I would assume the shop that originally installed it could bring it back into sync as you describe....I'm hoping he knows exactly what you mean or what the problem is as soon as I mention it to him. Thanks for you reply!
  15. After having my BF XR6 returned after five weeks at the panel beaters, I've found that my Mongoose security system is malfunctioning. I originally switched it off with the little key thingy so that it wouldn't be troublesome for the panel beater. But now that the car has returned, the alarm does not function properly (wails everytime I attempt to lock the doors). HOWEVER...I have noticed that the interior courtesy lights do not work either...If I assume that a missing or blown fuse is the cause for the interior lights not working...could this also be the cause for the alarm to malfunction. Where should I be directing my next line of enquiry do you think? Any advise from anyone with auto electrical knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
