Yup, I've used a thinner oil and an additive for a little, it seems to have cleared up almost all the ticking. Now my issue is that the car sounds as if it's not got enough air intake or its chugging, especially in idle or in drive 😅

Hey all, so after replacing the exhaust manifold gasket, I have a better idea of the location of the ticking. I've gone over the engine from the exhaust manifold in the video, does anyone have an idea?

Yeah nah all good lmao, that was I was thinking as well, might be sticky lifters just definitely not hoping it's a bent rod or something as well. Car has been doing my absolute head in.

I swear if it's a loose spark plug I'll eat my own pants, reckon it shouldn't be though cause changed all my coil packs and spark plugs about 3 months ago and made sure they were tight 🤔

So, a small update after this has taken me a few months to finally get into. Replaced the catalytic converter assembly a few days back and the exhaust manifold gasket and the same problem still persists. Also noticed a slight noise between the engine and transmission which sounds like someone intermittently shaking a small rock in a tin can. I'm now a bit lost for ideas 😬

Dang, sounds like this is going to be a fun dive in to figuring out issues. I'm a touch amazed that a exhaust specialist couldn't identify any issue if I'm honest but oh well, have to find a better one clearly. Regardless man, really appreciate your help, I'll definitely keep updated as to what's been going on!

Good to know! Yeah there's a bit of pinging noise that comes from engine on cold start-up which then slowly transitions into the noise you hear in the video. But either way you've been a God damn massive help! Definitely going to try to get this further diagnosed, would a gasket leak also cause hesitant acceleration and lumpy idle as well?

Interesting, it's definitely been a touch of an annoying problem to figure out. The video I upload was just from underneath the front right wheel arch, the sound, sounds as if it's coming from the engine bay/manifold a touch more. Is it possible it could be heat shield or even sticky lifters?

Yeah was thinking might get the cat swapped as well. Can that sound also sound as if it's occuring from the engine bay as well where the exhaust manifold is?

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well but had a muffler specialist take a look and even delve in to the catalytic converter and reckons there's nothing wrong with it or it may be melted in the middle? I'm getting a little bit of a hesitant acceleration as well and slightly lumpy idle. Pain in my ass to figure out 😂

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. I've just recently purchased an 2013 XR6 LPI and I've been hearing an odd knocking noise coming from the engine. It sounds almost as if it's coming from the exhaust manifold and may even be my catalytic converter. Taken it to mechanics and they're saying the car seems fine, taken it to a muffler specialist as well they've said there's been no issues so I'm a tad stumped. Attached is a video of the sound. Any helps would really be appreciated!
