  1. Welcome Dan. That's a sweet looking ride you have there.
  2. Now I may get flamed to hell for this I've got a BA Mk II with 6sp manual In the last few weeks for some reason I've found that I keep slotting it back into 1st from 2nd while aiming for 3rd. In all the time that I've owned it, I've never done it before, yet for some reason it suddenly wants to slot into 1st on the upshift. Luckily I've not yet done it while giving it anything serious, but I'm concerned that I suddenly wants to slot back into 1st for some reason. Is there any mechanical reason that people know of that would cause this? or do I need to lay off the beer
  3. Thanks for the replies. I guess what I wasn't sure on was whether the "callibration code" was the same as a normal code update, or was something that any shop with the right equipment could change, and therefore may not be as permanent.
  4. So I took the XR to Ford for it's 30k service (took it to Ford to get the brake recall done etc). I'd flashed it abck to stock several weeks earlier as I'm pretty sure that the valve springs were giving up on the 8lb tune, and I decided to play it safe till I got the $$ to replace them. Anway, I mentioned it had been running rough, and on the invoice it mentiones that "checked for codes, none stored, carry out calibration update". Now I'm wondering, will these codes be lost when I next flash the beast, and if so will Ford have recorded this information, I.e will they now be able to tell that it's been flashed ??
  5. And today it kept breaking down around 3500rpm when under full stick. Is this because I haven't gapped my plugs?
  6. Well I guess mod#2 is coming sooner than expected. I gave it a quick boot today, and with the cold weather, it just went nuts. I ws imrpessed, it certainly seemed to go a lot harder than ever before. Alas, when I came to a stop shortly after, it felt like it was running on 5 cylinders. Guess I need some valve springs
  7. I wonder if this is why people are clearing their stocks of CAPA tuners at $600ea
  8. Thanks guys. I'm sure this is probably old-hat to most of you, but I'm still realyl happy. I've already got the 'phoon 2nd CAI installed, but from my previous tuning experiences, I look at the whole air inlet system, and think it's a bit of a joke to be honest. How many times do they want to cross the motor? I'm sure a lot of the lag is due to the massive amount of inlet tract that needs to be pressurised. So I may buck the trend, and choose to move the battery and redo the entire intlet as mod #2.
  9. Well after lurking on this forum for a year, and waiting to run the car in, today I did my first mod. I bought a CAPA tuner off Heinrich performance on ebay, and recieved it last week. Unfortunately there was a slight mix up, and I got a box with Auto tunes rather than manual. The true colours of a shop come out when you have a problem, and Bruce immediately and with no questions what so ever took the box back, changed the tunes to manual, and sent it back the same day. So I recieved it an hour ago, and loaded up the 8PSI tune to see what the fuss was about. All I can say is, the car now goes like it should have out of the factory.I sold a very highly modified RX7 to buy the XR6, and have always been very dissapointed in it to be honest. WHile it's still no where near as quick, the changes over stock are amazing. I'll give the 10PSI tune a run on the weekend when I can play with it somwhere safe away from people, but I'm very happy so far. I'm planning on getting a custom tune shortly, now to decide what hardware mods I should do to go with it!
  10. I;ve got the same problem as the original poster. I get 18L/100k around town, a fantastic 15L/100k highway driving on cruise. This is backed by both the the fuel usage guage, and by the tank vs km calculations. 250k out of a tank is sh*t, and Ford refuse to accept anything is wrong. The published figures for driving are well below this - a 50% difference is not acceptable, and I'm starting to consider asking them to take the car back.
  11. Who cares if we have enough oil in 2030? If we keep burning fossil fuels for another 25 years, we are going to be f*cked anyway from global warming.
  12. 14. Yes, I drove here. All the way. My car is totally submersible. 15. If you think I am being rude, arrogant, or a *beep*, it's called sarcasm. Go look it up.

    Passing Of 05

R.I.P brocky. We have lost a true champion and a gentleman to boot. Rumour has it that he was decapitated, hope that's not true as I can imagine it would have been twice as shocking to his family and co-driver and rescue crew.
  14. Are they real people ?
  15. Actually, thinking about it, if the computer thought I had 19" wheels, my fuel consumption is even worse... or is my maths backwards??
  16. I had the same thoughts as you, but the issue with the tyre size is apparently that it affects the ODO, so I was actually doing more than the 250k the odo was showing me for each tank. But by my calc's it's only 10% anyway, so my 20L would drop to 18L which is still crap. So far it's returned to 20L anyway, so back it goes. I saw on the work sheet that the mech checked the AFR, does anyone know whether they actually would have a gas analyser, or if they just rely on the o2 sensor?
  17. Just got the car back from Ford. Just to recap, I was getting 250km out of a tank, which lined up perfectly with the 20L/100k reading on the dash. Ford had a look, and apparently the ECU was programmed with the wrong tyre size - it was set to 19" wheels apparently which would have upset the odo. So far it is now showing a reduction from 20L to 17L, which still is sh*t, but is better. I'll give it a tank or so to re-learn the fuel maps (which were apparently also all reset) and see how it goes.
  18. I'm biased. The only real american cars I have driven (apart from some 'vettes) are the rental cars I used to get over there all the time. I found that in general, they were all heavy, sloppy cars that handled like a boat, stopped poorly, but had muther f*** powerfull engines to carry their ridiculous weight.
  19. It wouldn't be Australia if we didn't take the piss out of the man shortly after his passing. I'm sure even Steve would agree.
  20. Shame there are guys that have left because of "cop bashing". Personally, I've only met one dickhead boy in blue, and the number of dickheads there are around in general life, that's just to be expected I guess. I remember once I was living in Sydney, and heard knocking on the door at 3:00am with statments of "Police". I stumbled down to the front, and opened the window and stuck me head out, making the poor buggers jump a bit. You see the front door lock was broken... anyway, they asked to come in to talk to me, so I told em the door was stuffed, and they needed to come round back. So off they trotted, and then I heard them fall over. You see the grass was 6ft tall, and hidden in it was a steel ballustrade. Dunno how the guy didn't break an ankle.. then they opened the gate and got "greeted" by our german shep which I hadn't thought to mention to them. I call the dog off them, and eventually get them inside. At this stage, my mates girlfriend had stumbled down, and she was one of these real histerical chicks, she started going off her head in her nasal voice. The dog was going nuts, she was screaming, the cops were there, I was stoned off my nut, so I told her to shut the f*** up and go back to bed. At which stage I asked the cops what they wanted, when they stated that there was a report of domestic violence... and here I was screamin at this chick in front of them. After a bit of explanation, they accepted that nothing was going on, and went to leave, at which stage they said "mate, you really should put that bong away" and left. When I look at it from their point of view, I certainly wouldn't have been as gracious. All off topic though..
  21. Stupid question, but why would having it run on 91 octane require it to have a fuel system flush?
  22. Seriously, it's just normal everyday driving to and from work. It's not total stop start, but it is busy, so I literally don't have the opportunity to even thrash it, and I'm actually trying to get the best economy atm to see what it will do. I'm thinking I need to take it to an EFI specialist to get an AFR probe shoved up it's coit.
  23. Well I'm struggling to get 250km before it fuel light turns on :-( Could I blame it on the old dodgy valve springs???
  24. Yeah there's a problem with the mime type registration. When you go to view an image, it's returned to the browser as text. IE views it because IE doesn't follow the rules, and displays what it thinks. The server is returning "text/html" as the Content-type, rather than "image/gif" or other image type. Firefox follows the rules, so the images are broken. Also, I'm new here, so not sure if this is not, but when I click on "my garage" I get The file /home/xr6turbo/public_html/forum/sources/lib/garage_loader.php has been encoded with the ionCube PHP Encoder and requires the free ioncube_loader_lin_4.4.so ionCube PHP Loader to be installed.
  25. OK, just was just out, the fuel light came on, so I filled up. Squeezed almost exactly 50L in her to the first click. Had done exactly 246km - mostly sedate drive to work and back city traffic. That equals 20.3L /100km. Which is pretty much what the fuel meter tells me. Yikes!
