  1. Howdy, I am looking at buying a 2003 BA Ute that is sitting a bit lower than standard. Now XR utes are fairly low as standard and the idea of scraping over every single speed bump etc does not excite. Is 'raising' a ute that has been lowered a simple exercise? Is it a case of replacing the existing coil springs (front) and leaf pack (rear), and possibly shocks, and it's all good (after alignment), or is it a little more difficult than that? Thanks.
  2. Hi, I think the standard offset for a BA Falcon (and many others) on an 8 inch rim is +36.5. Would running an 8 inch rim with an offset of +38 make any noticeable difference (apart from having the tyres run 1.5mm closer to the 'diff' - if that is the correct way to view the offsets)? Any other issues/contact points or rubbing? Offset = confused! Not something I play with very often so not something I commit to my feeble brain. Thanks!
  3. Thanks for that input. I can hear/feel the fans kick in and out, and the operating temperature never changes on the gauge when driving. There is a very slight drop in revs as the fans start up, but it instantly goes back to normal. I never considered that an issue but will certainly raise it with the tuner when it goes in. This is more a starting when warm issue though, so not sure how the fan setup would be a major contributing factor. What are the symptoms of cam/crank/MAP sensor failures?
  4. Hi, I am hoping the wisdom contained within this forum might be able to help. 2005 BAII XR6T ute - 117,000kms, auto, 1000cc injectors, 255 walbro, 12psi actuator - just about everything else stock. Has started developing a problem where when cold, it starts up and idles fine. Drive to work - fine. Drive home after work - fine. If I need to stop on the way home (pick up milk whatever), when I get in to restart, car starts, and when settling to idle, doesn't - it stalls. If it does hang on (after revs have jumped around from very low to 800), when I put in in D or R, it stalls. I need to keep feeding accel pedal to keep it running. After a couple of seconds of this, it does start to run ok and I can continue on. If I shut it down and restart - problem is back. Once car is running, power is good, no mis/hestation or any other running difficulties - only warm startups seem to cause the problem. No fault codes generate. Have replaced spark plugs, genuine coils, 02 sensor, inlet gasket, TPS, fuel filter, air filter (running F6 airbox). Have had tuner check tune etc - and have it booked in (again) for them to see if they can find the fault, but wanting to see what others might think. Not sure where to go from here. Could it be cam sensors/crank sensor/MAP/fuel pump faulty/wiring issue (either coils, or under inlet manifold)? It is starting to be a pain - love the car, enjoy the drive, more than enough power for me (around 280rwkw), but will choose to drive another car if it means a warm restart will be part of the journey. Any thoughts (and thanks in advance!)?
  5. Hi all, I have a BA2 XR6T ute. The tyre placard has two tyres listed - 245/40/18 (which I have on the car), and also 235/45/17 - both on 8.0J wide rims. When I go to tiresize.com to check out the difference, I see that the diameter of the 17 inch is 10mm smaller than the 18 inch. Whilst minor, this would mean speedo error, and I guess I might get slightly better acceleration with the 17 inch in this size (although this is not the reason to compare). Now, when I play with tiresize, I see that a 245/45/17 is in effect near on identical in size to the 245/40/18 (except for the greater sidewall of course). So, why would Ford have the 235/45 listed as the tyre size for 17 inch which means the tyres are different diameters, when the 245/45 would mean an identical tyre size for both 17 & 18 inch? Would there be any issues fitting a 245/45/17, firstly from a 'fitment' perspective, and secondly from a legal perspective? TIA.
  6. Sounds very 'battery related' to me, having had this myself. Do you have one of those small battery jump starters (always good to have one anyway). Before you start it (cold), connect the jump starter (charged) to the battery, then try and start. If it starts without the click-click, your battery needs replacing.
  7. Sorry to bump an old thread. I recently purchased a BAII XR6T Magnet ute with the 18 inch rims. The tyre placard says 245/40/18, the tyres fitted were 235/40/18. I didn't think too much of it, but I then acquired another set of rims and tyres, but the tyres were 245/40. When I stacked the 'old' rims on top of one another, the rim edges bumped against each other - meaning they were 'exposed' the most - the tyres sat 'inbound' of the rim edge if that makes sense. When I stacked the 'new' rims (with 245/40) on top of one another, the tyres rested on each other, so the rim edges were sort of 'protected' as the tyres sat out further than the rim. It probably doesn't seem like much, but I can envisage far more rim damage with minor 'kerb incursions' with the 235's than the 245's.
