I'm all aboard the barra swap vs ute hype train. get it done 😎 Wondering if I should siphon the fuel out of my tank and replace it with new fuel... 🤔 Filled up the whole tank beginning on December before taking the turbo off, whole tank of 4 month old bp 98.. Can't really drive around to empty it. Thoughts? How long can 98 sit in a tank for?

@k31thI'm too young and immature to give a sh*t about revving it not tuned hahahaha It was warm that was all I cared about lol @Puffwagonyup that's the plan. Not gonna be driving it around till it's tuned anyway. If I do it would be to work which I can legit see from my house 😂

Well. After many months of regular posting and asking tonnes of questions on the forum. Its finally driving under its own power! To say I'm excited is an understatement. I'm so proud to be able to say I did this all myself in my garage. Lotta hard work and lots of learning, but so rewarding!! Everything is all back together after waiting so long for my order from sparesbox. part of that order was the new drive belt and coolant overflow tank, once I had them I could finally assemble the car to the point that it could be taken off the bricks and driven. Here's the last photos I took of the car on bricks and stands. First start so such a good feeling! Just listen to that power steering pump go hard 👌🤣 Here it is, paired once again with @SACKED FG. And also, a sneaky drive to the petrol station just up the road to fill up the very flat tyres. Just got the wastegate boost control plumbing and fit a new 4" silicone elbow I've ordered from plazmaman. Hoping the rest of the stuff arrives next week some time!

The entire paint job IS the cost cutting process hahahahah

Brake fluid had already eaten through the paint when I bought it. Was something I didn't notice at the time when I bought the car 😞 Oh well, least I fixed some of it 😂 I got the wire brush onto the seam but nothing came from it. I'll keep an eye on the area from time to time

As I mentioned earlier yesterday, I tackled a rust spot under the brake booster that has been plaguing me since the day I bought it. Not thinking it was so bad, I hit it with some rust converter I got from Bunnings. As soon as I wiped it on with a cloth, some paint just flaked off and underneath... More rust. A bit concerned now I hit the area with a small wire brush and paint just continued to flake off leaving rust in its place. I continued brushing the area until paint stopped flaking off, scary how much the rust had spread in the area! Once I was satisfied that I had removed all the paint from the rust affected metal, I hit the area again with the rust converter. Here are some pics of the process. The first image was taken after the first wipe down of rust converter - I forgot to take a photo before any rust converter had hit the surface 🙃 The other pic is the area cleaned from rust converter and prepped with lots of IPA to get it ready for primer. I then got to work masking as much of the surround area as I could. Did as good as I could given the tight spaces I was working with. Had a leftover plastic sheet thing from painting a TV cabinet with the Mrs recently so I used that to cover the whole front as well as a few areas in the engine bay. Once I was satisfied with the masking I hit it with 2 coats of primer. Let that dry, then sprayed a colour matched 2k base on top. Not sure why I got 2k base, the finish ended up being so much more gloss than the factory blue.... Makes me think the factory base is not 2k... Either way, the end result is good enough for me. Not show car spec but definitely better than the rust that was there before. Its in an area that is also hard to see so I'm not too concerned with the slight colour difference.

Yea I used a thread sealant on it too Loctite thread sealant, I forget what the number is. Basically just liquid thread tape... Not sure how it'll hold up with the high temps of a turbo chra but we'll see. Might swap it out for a high temp silicone gasket sealant? Time will tell. In other news, had a fk it moment and worked on the ic piping late last night. Off came the bumper and I began working the piping on the left side (hot side). Annoyingly, not really much I could do. But with my fiddling around I managed to get a small gap between the pipe and the coolant overflow tank. Might file down the mount holes of the overflow tank to give myself some wiggle room to move the tank away from the pipe a bit. Just about 😈

Righto, put the fitting on, I'm pretty certain it seals using the tapered part of the inside of the fitting. It lines up with a taper inside the turbo. In any case. Drive belt back on, fans back on. Turbo coolant line back on with the new hex head bolts for the front of the timing cover, now the coolant bracket is nice and snug again. Small issue, ic pipe that goes from the turbo is colliding with the coolant overflow tank now for some reason. Bit of a problem. Gonna have to take off the bumper to try suss out that side of the piping again. Oh well, today is not the day to start it but that's aight. Upwards and onwards!

Picking up a new whip today 😄 2016 Hyundai Accent Sedan. Mrs really needed her own car. Been using my brothers daily and his FG more months now since my car has been off the road. With the current fuel prices, makes it so hard to justify driving my car as a daily. Been spending way over $120 a week on fuel if I drive my brothers FG every day.... Worst week was $200 just in fuel (Tuesday to Tuesday cycle). that's just stupid!

Ah yes!! I was supposed to update this thread on that situation! I went to fit the supplied fitting (the one with the tiny hole) and noticed the inside of the fitting has some metal swarf in it.... Clearly some bad QC on them because that crap would have gone straight through the turbo!!!!!!!! The threads themselves aren't the best either, been knocked around a few times by the looks of it. Anyway that isn't what I wanted to update the thread about. When I went to install the fitting, it screwed in smooth but suddenly felt like it was bottoming out! With my bad history of stripping threads I didn't want to put a wrench on it in case I damage something. It didn't feel right at all. @Rob70 you mentioned this, and it is what sounds like I had.... Maybe I do need to tighten it down with a socket or something, but its just odd to me that it feels that way when its not even nearly screwed in all the way. Sounds almost like a tapered fitting kinda situation but its definitely not one.

Drive belt and new overflow tank arrived so I can put it all together and top up some fluids. Other than that, the car is all back together!! I think today may be the day I can finally start my car....... I'm excited but sh*tting myself at the same time. Won't have a boost line connected to the wg but that isn't gonna stop me starting the car 😋 Will post some pics soon too. On a side note, fixed some rust from a leaking brake booster/master cylinder from when I bought the car. Got 2k base instead of 1k so the colour is way more gloss than matte like the factory engine bay. But heck, much rather have that than the large amount of rust that was there previously

F$ck me that sucksssss

Yea this site reinforces my original understanding... The fitting that comes with the oil feed is the same as the fitting that comes with the turbo. -4an. Only difference is that the one from the turbo, as the site suggests, has a very small orifice to restrict oil whereas the one that comes with the oil feed has an unrestricted orifice. Maybe an oversight during the isntal of his turbo? The fitting came with the turbo - so is intended to be used.... I'ma go with the one that came with the turbo 😋

You are more than likely correct with this statement. I'd hope though, that their "branded" products undergo stringent QA and testing prior to being put up for sale to justify the massive mark-up. Maybe they are mass produced by this manufacturer in china, but are then balanced and tested and what not in house (by the brand selling the product).

Got a question about oil restrictor fittings for the new turbo. Pulsar gtx3582, comes with an oil restrictor AN fitting. My brothers also came with one (pulsar 3584), but I have his fitting as it was not installed - I.e on his car he has the AN fitting installed that came with the oil feed filter, it has no restrictor. This is what is currently on my turbo, too. I'm a bit confused, with my limited turbo knowledge, I was under the impression that ball bearing turbos require these oil restrictors... So why is it not fitted on my brothers pulsar 3584? Does it really matter? Should I fit it to my rig or just use the standard fitting that came with the oil feed filter?? 🤔 Looking for advice from peeps that have used these turbos. Must be a reason it isn't fitted on my brothers car.

Holy sh*t the price though! Who wants to be a test mule? 🤣🤣🤣

that's so frustrating. They must spend an absolute fortune on marketing... They should maybe reduce their marketing budget and use the money to hire more staff and buy more stock ffs Their adverts are everywhere, sponsor multiple people and projects, but can't get an order out of "in stock" items in less than 3 days? wtf. BCW, bennu's custom works, on yt for example will say "I didn't have x. so sparesbox overnighted x to my shop"....... WTFFFFFFFFF Its happened so many times and makes me go "wow must be an awesome shop". WRONG The most frustrating part about all this is that they even send an email about the high volume of orders... If you know you're getting consistently large numbers of orders then its pretty logical that you need more staff

Day 10 of waiting for my sparesbox order. I have begun dreaming that I get the "in transit" email, these nightmares will not stop. My car will leave me soon if I cannot get the parts to finish it off. In other news, local bolt shop didn't have the bolts I was after but could order them in. Decided to go with the site I'd found previously. Ordered the bolts last night, early this morning I get the notification that they have been shipped via startrack. Sparesbox, take notes 😡 Edit: Morning @k31th! Didn't see this message yesterday and got worried

Ooof longbranch is good stuff. Should try woodford reserve if you haven't already and you like bourbons. One of my favourites 👌👌

Damn that's a fancy looking how @Panda Eyes Where the photos of garage!?? I was keen to have a sticky beak at that part 🤣 Photos are amazing though, props to whoever took them. Very well lit and great composition -
Wow that is a lonnnggg time! Lotta knowledge hidden in all those years tinkering with barras... Surely

Found a website that sells nuts and bolts for cheap! https://www.boltandnut.com.au/ Name kinda gives it away lol. In any case, they sell hex bolts that will work for the application. Ideally be better to use a flanged head bolt but I can't find any in the size I'm after. At least I've got an option for a solution. Will see if I can source local though so I don't have to wait for shipping. Added to a cart 2 M8 washers, M8x1.25p 120, 130, and 140mm bolts so I can test out the sizes for the top right bolt. I'm highly confident the 140mm will work for the top left bolt (the stripped one) because that thread is blind (goes all the way through).
