I have new dba slotted 355mm t3 rotors and brembo 6 piston calipers with the brembo pads on the front and braided lines all round . I bedded them in by doing 7-8 100kph down to 30kph slow downs. They were going fine but have now developed a shudder. I can only get it to shudder repeatedly by going 50kph and doing light braking to a stop. It gets quite violent if I don't lift off the pedal. If I brake hard it won't do it. Any ideas guys? I have cleaned the abs sensors and the plug on the abs sensor wire. Checked the caliper mounting bolts are tight and checked the front wheels spin freely and the rotors don't bind on the pads.

I have a Mac 3 port solenoid, can this be used and wired in instead of stock solenoid and plumbed in the aforementioned way to keep wastegate closed for longer? Or do you need a complete aftermarket electronic boost controller?
-
@Puffwagon also I tried replumbing wastegate lines. From pressure source, compressor outlet teed to bottom port wastegate and also into factory in port of boost solenoid then out port of solenoid to top port of wastegate and I can confirm it does not work. I read one of @k31ths posts from ages ago and he tried it too and did the same thing for me, boosted up fast, boost guage needle went nuts flickering around. I will go see tuna again to get boost surge sorted.

@Puffwagon Induction noise is pretty loud, I didn't drive car without my custom intake so don't know if it sounds different. I just wanted to feed it some extra air when I installed turboside. It does dose hard out now and it never used to. I'm installing a Greddy type r 50mm bov and can't decide whether to stick it on throttle body elbow or compressor outlet ic pipe pre ic. There's lots of opinions out there like 1 dump the hot air pre ic, 2 put it close to turbo to protect turbo from surge, 3 put it near throttle because airflow is going that ways, 4 stick it wherever it suits for ease of packaging and vacuum line. What do you think Puff?

Ok cool thanks, is that a good power curve for gt3582r? Do you like my intake? @Puffwagon, @JETURBO, @k31thwhat do you guys think of my dyno graph? Above

I'm getting boost surge in 4th gear, it surges from 15-17psi, and back and forth. Is it something that the tuner should be able to fix with the stock boost control? I have a 14psi spring in my new ts 45mm ewg. You can see on the power curve the drop when it surges. Also here's a pic of my homemade cold air intake for my turbo side intake. I found a 45degree 4inch pvc bend and got to work heating it up and shaping it while wearing welding gloves. Glued it to rubber hose and 3inch pvc pipe pokes thru into airbox, I holesawed a hole in side panel of airbox. Worked out not bad for a dairy farmer.

@Puffwagonquestion for you puff, I have a 14psi spring in my ts 45mm wastegate, top port of gate is open. In 4th gear I get a bit of boost surge up in the rpms. If I plumb comp outlet tube to bottom port of gate as well as tee it to stock boost solenoid in port and then from out port of boost solenoid to top port of gate will this give better boost control? My other car a 300zx with single to4z has profec b boost controller and is plumbed like that and has perfect boost control.

I'm going to put a Greddy type r 50mm bov on my fgx because I want to stop it dosing. It doses real bad even at 1 or 2 psi. I have a cast alloy intune motorsports throttle body elbow that I could make a hole in and weld a flange on for bov or put it on alloy ic pipe on compressor outlet. On turbo side will be most likely to stop the dose I think. Any ideas, pros and cons?

Iv put a turbo side intake on my fgx and now it doses hardout, even with stock bov on it doses, I have a turbosmart kompact 25mm bov which goes to atmosphere. With the stock valve and the turbosmart bov at idle the piston gets sucked off its seat and leaks to atmosphere. Is it bad for it to leak to atmosphere? I'm guessing it's leaking while cruising on vacuum as well. I put a red harder spring in turbosmart bov and piston does not lift off seat at idle. With stock crossover and airbox I couldn't hear any dose at all, now it doses when backing off from 1 or 2 psi and doses harder with more boost. I don't hear much bov whoosh until about over 12psi. Is there a different/ better type of bov that works better?

Looking back on this forum I took car off the road and onto the hoist way back in late September 2021 and started fixing what I thought was leaky crank seal. That's when the can of spaghetti was opened. 6 and a half months ago. No powersteer or oil or water or wastegate leaks now yaa.
-
Sure does, satisfying as, especially as iv done it all myself and have done it really really well, had a few hiccups along the way but it's all sorted really well and I know everything that's done to it right down to every bolt and clamp on the car. Probably spent about 13k in parts alone, done nearly all labour myself so probably saved about 8k in labour and learnt tons along the way. Havnt let any rough monkey mechanics stuff it up. Stoked as!

Took motor out to fix oil leaks and do HD timing chain kit and ati balancer about dunno 4 months ago, got that done , got motor back in thought all was good then back on road about 6wks ago gor about 2 days lol, then wastegate crapped itself, fixed all that and decided to go mackielec industries turbo side intake and battery relocation kit, that took nearly 3weeks to get here from Oz. Fitted it and dynoed yesterday. Mission accomplished.

The 439kw is at 5600rpm not 5000 @PuffwagonI got suckered and bought a knockoff ts wastegate 2 years ago and it lunched and couldn't fix it so, Chinese dud wastegate issue fixed with new 45mm genuine ts and re-engineered wastegate piping to suit.
-
I just registered my fgx today 12 months $109 incl gst, npd 100 octane fuel $2.98 per litre that's the cheapest around, bp98 is $3.32 what a ripoff. Yesterday got returned after new ts 45mm wg 14psi spring and turboside intake, 17psi 439rwkw at 5000rpm still gt3582r. Goes hard now, 300kw at 3500rpm, 390kw at 4500rpm. Funny thing is it doses now widididid with turbo side and couldn't hear it before with crossover and k & n panel. I have even put a softer spring in my ts kompact 25mm bov which goes to atmosphere to try reduce the dose but still doses. Get a lot of dose, a bit of bov whoosh and alot of JET sucky suck sounds, it's awesome lovn it lol.

I installed a mackielec turbo side intake and battery relocation kit today. I have a 3582r turbo, 4 inch dump and external gate. I started engine, let it warm up for 5 minutes idling. Then I gave it a few revs, and a bit more maybe to 5000rpm and it boosted to 5psi while sitting still. Is it doing this now because of less restriction with the turbo side intake?
-
Holy crap, here it's about $180 I think We have road user charges for diesel cars about $600 for 10000ks I think.
-
@Puffwagonmate bp98 over here in nz is $3.18 per litre. Car rego here might be cheaper to compensate or something. But I did hear government tax on fuel here is 52%. Either way its damn expensive. Maybe they want us to buy electric barras lol.

@Puffwagongreat advice, words of wisdom right there! Here's a theory, the guys out there on stock 3576 turbos making 320rwkw are getting power down low and don't have or need built drivelines. So what's the difference having a turbo that will make lowdown power and transition into strong mid and topend and then draw the line at 400-420rwkw?
-
@Tom Tuckerthe 8374 is 750hp and the newer 8474 only difference is a 1mm larger flash technology compressor wheel and is 950hp. No havnt done rods or pistons or driveline. Just valve springs, headstuds, flexplate, oil pump, HD cam chain kit. Might have to pull my head in and save spending another 20k at least I'm guessing if I did trans, driveshaft, efr turbo, pistons and rods etc etc. Was kinda thinking it would be awesome to have hardout spool like stock 3576 but also have 400 to 420 rwkw and mean topend on 98 pump. But you have a point, it will just break stuff! Might have to stick with gt3582r for now. I just like changing and modifying stuff, iv got the bug. Iv always modified every car and dirt bike iv had.
-
@Tom Tuckerwhy would you say the 9174? Have you looked into the efr 8474? It's a 950hp unit would spool quick too. Supposed to spool quicker than a gen 2 gtx3582r by quite a margin. I'm just looking into whether the .83 t3 housing option would flow enough and its looking like it does. Looks really awesome but really expensive.
-
@absmithI'm looking at the efr8474 with .83 turbine housing. From your pictures the 9180 side by side with the gt3576 or gt3582r it looks like the. 83 on your 9180 is physically larger than the gt's 1.06. How did you think they compared in size? I don't want to go smaller than the stock 1.06 on a new turbo but the .83 looks good. The efr 8474 is 950hp rated. What hp is your 9180? I wonder if exhaust housings are different sizes between 9180 and 8474.

@sixmanso did you use a .83 turbine housing? What power did you make at what boost?
-
@sixmanhi I'm looking at a efr8474. Really interested to learn about your borg install. I'm also thinking of using the t3 .83 housing so it will bolt up to stock manifold. Did yours fit easily enough? You reckon the .83 is similar size to stock 1.06? Is the front of comp housing physical much more forward of stock housing? I currently have a .7 comp housing on gt3582r on my fgx. Thanks
