  1. A little under 35,000 on a 2014 FG. Going by these comments, I am going to be able to drive this thing until I am 80!
  2. Hi All, Just a quick question. I live in regional NSW, and the quality of the roads out here are pretty 'exciting'. I am currently running stock 19 inch luxury pack rims on a FG Mk2. They still have the original factory 245/35/19 tyres on them. In terms of tread there is plenty left. The car is otherwise stock, although I have some springs/shocks I am yet to put on. Recently, I hit a pothole that resulted in a large enough dent in the rim to break the seal and destroy the tire - I was driving in the dark on a 'main road' at 80km/h. I had to get the rim lathed to get it back into shape. Because I live in BFNW, I had to put on whatever they had in stock at the time - some lower tier pirelli, mostly likely a dragon sport - and I paid about $300 for the privilege. I have been meaning to change it but haven't had a chance yet. Now I have another flat - different tyre. I have had a gutful to say the least. Because I am an old bloke, I remember when a 50 profile was a pretty big deal. I also have a hankering for steel rims, probably from back in the day when 'chasers' were all the rage on the street scene. I appreciate the steelies are heavier and the trade-offs, but I am trying to recapture my youth. So I want to go with higher profile tyres to deal with sh*t roads and I started looking at rims. Got on to these: http://www.tarziatyrecentre.com.au/dynamic-17x9-d-shape-ford-falcon-au-ba-bf-fg-fgx-s paired with Kuhmo V720s, Hankook Rs4 or Bridgestone RE003. At one stage, I was also thinking black Enkei RFP1, but I am less convinced about that. The overall diameter of the wheel is smaller by 0.4%. A couple of questions, how do you think the steelies will go in terms of fit? They are only available in 9 and 10 inch so I was a little concerned about the front. Was going to go 9 all round as I didn't think I would get 10's under the back without dicking around or scrubbing. I was hoping @JETURBO might have seen these an can provide some advice as they down his neck of the woods. Or if you could recommend alternate black 17s, that would be great. Thanks guys. Dan
  3. Congratulations .Stripes. It must be a great feeling!

    The new hack

    Very tidy. Nice pair! Congratulations
  5. At the end of the day it is your car champion and you are the one that has to be seen in it, drive it and pay for it. As long as you are happy, then who cares? It is not for me, I like them to be more understated - I need to remove the rear wing on mine completely. But more power to you.
  6. I just got a WH-1000MX3 and thought they were the gear.....until now. I love to to sit and listen to music but I had my right ear destroyed (now a constant ringing) by a machine gun being fired close to it. So don’t think I could appreciate anything better anyway.
  7. Weapon! If this is the car I think it is I was only reading the post related to it yesterday. If it is, great to see it on the road after all the trouble the gent had with it and the battle to get it running. I hope he is enjoying it!!

    Hot or Not?

Found this today on the web - I haven't seen anything like this before. Wasn't too sure if I like or not.

    FG misfire

How did you get on Oz?
  11. Thanks Gents, Thanks Skid, I realised what you meant now. But in my panic, I wasn't too sure. If anyone needs a new dipstick just let me know - I have a few
  12. Thanks Puff, He replaced the filter. I provided it and checked it on the weekend - it was a Ryco SynTec which are black. To be honest I don't know what he did, but I do know he replaced the filter. Instead of just owning his error (saying he overfilled it) he convinced me he was right and maybe the dipstick was replaced with a different one when it was getting serviced by ford. The idea is it might have been serviced by an apprentice that wasn't paying attention etc. I believed him because I didn't think he had any reason to lie. When I went back about it he was almost having a giggle. He was lucky not to cop a flogging - he didn't get one only because I would have been in more trouble than it is worth (the wife views those sort of things pretty poorly). I replaced the oil and filter again on the weekend, for my own piece of mind mainly. It is all OK now. Goes to show if you want something done right.....
  13. Hi Gents, First up I wanted to say a big thank you for your help and advice. It is this sense of community that makes this such a great place to share a passion. Just an update. Long story short. The mechanic is lazy at best, incompetent and a liar at worst. In summary, he put in 6.8L and didn't check the dipstick. When I did and took it back to him, he didn't have the integrity to say he didn't check and started to point the finger at anything other than himself. I didn't have any reason not to believe him and like I said before seemed like a good guy. And I am far too trusting I guess. I dropped the oil and put in a new filter and it took a margin over 6 and a bit. It was overfilled by about 0.8L if I had to guess. I only drove it for 500kms and no oil light went on, there are no oil leaks, not blowing any smoke so I might be OK (lucky). I just should have done it myself to start with. But working full time, doing a course full time, renovations and a 2 year and a newborn - it just seemed like an easier option at the time. Lesson learnt.
  14. Thanks Rab - took it to a local mechanic, so I would hope so otherwise I will be looking for a new mechanic. I just don’t have time to do it myself. I went back into ford today and they are ordering a new one so hopefully that wil settle it. I will also find one in a wreckers over the weekend as I am in Sydney and will measure the length. I am in country NSW so there aren’t any locally.
  15. I am not sure what you mean?
  16. Thanks Puffwagon, it is really appreciated. The BFs and even the NA XR6's are different.
  17. Hi All, I have a problem and can't figure it out. I recently purchased a low km 2014 FG MK2 XR6T and took it a local mechanic to do an oil change - I couldn't get under there at the moment. The car was drained on a hoist and refilled with 6.8L. I checked the dipstick after I picked it up and it is over the full mark by half an inch or so. So it went back up on the hoist, he drained it again measured it and put 6.8 back in. Over again. So we thought the only thing it could be is the dipstick is the wrong one. By all accounts, the mechanic is a good bloke and knows what he is doing. I checked the dipstick and the part number is BR29-6750 so off to Ford I go. The spare parts kid tells me the number should be BR2Z-6750, I am annoyed, but at least I have a solution. So I order the new dipstick. I look at the package and sure enough, the package has BR2Z-6750 on the outside - all good. I drive home to put it in (the xr6T sits in the garage and only comes out on weekends). I thought I should check the part number the part number on the actual dipstick is.........BR29-6750!!!! Now I am thinking this is too much of a coincidence? Does anyone have any advice? Or perhaps even check theirs if they have an FG?
  18. Hi, I found this and thought it was really useful. It allows comparison between two different tyre and rim sizes. Also can compare for offset. I did a search and it hasn't been posted before. Enjoy... https://tiresize.com/ Dan.
  19. Thanks Adams355, off to get some Castrol edge 5W - 40 first thing in the morning (after a quick search, I see a lot of people on here use). Your advice has been a great help once again! Ha ha - thanks mate I knew what you meant - I had a early morning typo
