Ford ranger heart transplant
SelectivePC replied to Doug666's topic in Conversions, transplants and Frankensteins
That would be pretty cool, I just got rid of a old Ford Ranger side step that I used for years as a Daily. And after trying to fit my current Barra project into the chassis, its going to take some metal moving. -

I would really like to keep a stock hood on it if possible. We have some ideas in mind to lower mounting points on the sub frame and space it down as well. -

A little more chassis prep, before starting on the cage. -

So the holiday weekend left me with lots of time to get some more prep work done. Surprised how much weight I was able to get out of it. But hopefully ill be in the 2800lb range once im done installing everything else. (cage and a BA barra) Wiki curb weights the car between 3200-3600lbs if it has a targa top, which mine does. But this is just motor, trans, front end tid bits removed. Sound deadener being removed. This is more like it. Now to keep it low. -

Now some practice with the welder, its been a while. But just like a bike, got it back down after a min or two. Starting blocking in the fronts for the front end. -

Its stuff like this that makes me think you guys do the craziest stuff. I would have never of thought to do that, and I don't see why it wouldn't work. -

Ok ill have to take some measurements to tomorrow, and see what I can do about this. OK so, my only issue with this is the ARP studs are not going to be long enough either now. After measuring out all of their requested numbers, this is the stud that would fit, and currently the nut runs down level with the top of the stud. -

So today was a great day. Had some customers fall through, so had a bit of time today. Swapping the front sump girdle for a rear sump version. Re-torquing the main bolts. New rear main seal while im in there. And new rear mounted pick-up. Oil pan installed, and cross bolts with thread sealant. And finally!!!! The two together. ARP calls for 125ft. lbs, for the random bolts I had to order. Done and done. *Note to self, head bolts are not easily accessed with cams installed already, so small learning curve. Cams reinstalled. (Again) And started getting some timing ready to do, but enough for today. -

Sure if its not too much trouble, I'm sure its similar to the other inline 6 stuff I have done, but never come across the 2 girdle system the Barra uses. -

Some progress today on the head. Just need to find the proper torque sequence and specs, for the caps. With any luck should go back onto the motor sometime this week, and work of bolting it down and getting timing items on and re-timing the motor. -

Found a little time today too make some progress. Tapping oil galleys for NPT plugs, and the future oil feed Started installing new valve stem seals and upgraded crow valve springs Little by little. -
Nicely done man, I have finally my head back from the machine shop. Recently de-burred the rough edges from the decking process, and then drilled and tapped the oil galley passages for plugs, and re-assembled. Cant wait to start prepping the engine bay for fab work, but im still a few months out, I think.
