Ok for anyone out there interested we think we fixed the problem put car back on hoist sprayed the trans connections with terminal cleaner blew dry with compressed air reconnected and voila limp mode gone snappy changes back -

ok been a while but here is where I am at. Had my trans rebuilt, had a few mods done to the intercooler setup as we found a couple of choke points so the new garret gt3582 now breathes really well, so we fit the new trans, we take the car for a run and it runs great, snappy shifts, changes through all gears great tyres chirping as it changes into third, turned around took back to shed, let it cool down, went for another drive next morning, car goes strait into limp mode, stuck in third, did a search here to see what I could have done wrong, replaced battery with new 600cca, replaced both terminals on battery and earth terminal, checked engine strap earth, checked trans terminals and ecu connectors, all seems fine, I just dont get what we have done wrong, I expect now we have a bit more torque but boost gauge still only showing 15lbs max and now I just have to idle up the street and after about 20 seconds car goes straight to limp mode. Has sat for about 6 months and am close to the coast, could my trans module in my ecu be fried? not sure what else to do. -

sorry guys been away for a bit, and yes is the btr trans, I just dont get it, took it to ford who said it might be my torque convertor, they ran it though their system and could give me no reason why two different transes would have the same symptoms other than that. so have had it parked up as got hit with heaps of mod cert issues from vtnz, evidently bigger intercooler, fuel reg, wastegate actuator change all now need a low volume vehicle mod cert, and to boot went to start it the other day and the entire icc is dead, nothing, no cluster, no start, no boot pop , no unlock doors other than drivers with a key, can still unlock from the inside, have bought a bf cluster and removed the ba one, thinking I swap over the module and whack it back in and hope for the best, can I do this or am I throwing my money away, can I swap out the bem and put in to the bf unit? -
Got a problem with this trans, flaring in the change 2nd to third and almost always at wot it will flare when changing into fourth. Is a BA XR6T, 290kw on dyno, , had a spare trans that was ok, swapped out the trans and same problem still there.. did all the usuals, checked trans fluid when running and up to temp, has a trans cooler fitted but dont think this could be the issue, what am I missing, is it to do with torque convertor? did not swap this out when I changed the trans over, or could it be my torque tables in the hp tune? or solioids, resonably handy with a spanner, just dont know where to start on this, have trolled through the posts but can not put my finger on a definitive path to take here. Am in Greymouth, no tuners, no good trans mechs, can I buy the hp tune gear and do this myself if it is in the torque tables and is a simple disconnect.

ok, am pretty much ready to do the conversion on the xf falcy, have bought an 04 barra complete with Turbo and trans, got the wiring loom back to firewall, ecu, and fuse box essentially everthing in the engine bay. Sooo where to go from here, can I use the original manual trans?, what engine mounts etc, should I go with upgrading the rods while engine is is on the stand, ( will be putting in new valve springs ) any advice please, have spent the morning trawling the site trying to find a dedicated stream on this but so far no good.

Hi, valve springs replaced with crow 95lb and new lifters also, notice now when I get up it that I am hitting the limiter at the 10lb boost, think I am going to need a retune, might jump up to 15lbs boost.

ok got to the bottom of it, evidently it is my valve springs floating as I come off a highish reving but low load with 10psi boost, going to buy some crow springs methinks, anyone out there know a reputable south island mechanic to have this done in car? I do have a spare head off the first motor so can go that way as last resort.

ok, all done car running good on 10psi, noticed now sometimes when on WOT and then come off the pedal quick then go to reapply throttle the motor seems to have a flat spot like it is overfuelled or spark gone out , any ideas?, also partner said she saw a slight puff of grey white smoke when I got up it the other day .

done, 489 on trade me, up there but cheaper than a panelbeater

ok next thing, going to upgrade the front discs, any suggestions, am looking at an aussie supplier but they dont freight to nz, is partsfield_com

yup only got the boost at 7.5 psi, don't really want to jump it up too far yet until I sort a new intercooler and valve spring the head, then will look to bump up the kw's

and , update, car is running, took the opportunity to upgrade the turbo to the Garret gtx358 gen2, dyno came out at 284rwkw, k and n panel filter works fine, am a happy camper, been a bit of a marathon so going to just drive it for a bit before starting the stage two upgrade of the spare head.

yup, and leakdown test came back perfect also. not getting my hopes up just yet though, will wait till I have it off the dyno and back in the drive before I get too excited, really disappointed with BMC however, they really had a good chance here to show what a caring, put things right company they are, as yet this has not been the case, not sure where to go now with the air cleaner option. Open to suggestions.

ok , quick update. after many weeks of patient waiting we have a result of sorts, gotta say big thanks to my tuner steve at SMP here in Blenheim and Chris Evert at NZEFI in CHCH, between them they have convinced the australian importer to cover the cost of the repairs to the motor, which is awesome from them unfortunately I don't know who they are but I will endeavour to find out, as BMC have yet to respond to them but they have undertaken to cover the costs of the repairs regardless and instructed SMP to go ahead with the work. Turbo sent away today for new inner core , going ceramic, have new aftermarket intercooler arriving hopefully tomorrow so all going to plan coupla weeks will reach the end of this saga.

have not checked the cooler yet but suspect given the mess the turbo is in the air filter product has moved through this also, still waiting to hear back from the manufacturer and the car is currently back at the tuners until we get it sorted expecting to hear back later this week, will keep you all posted.

yup is a BMC has been shipped to aussie to the supplier, claim in progress will keep you posted but cant say too much until I hear from them, expecting an answer around Wednesday of this week.

nah bearings rooted , massive up and downs going on, is on a truck back to the tuner tomorrow, will keep you posted , and will find out what brand.

cheers man, but I found the problem thought I would see what the status of the turbo was, pulled the airpipe and saw red...literally, followed it back to the air cleaner and whaddayaknow, brand spanikin new highflow filter in bits, check out these pics, just sent them to tuner, he going to give me a call in the morning, am thinking this is now all through my intercooler vanes as well....

and duh duh call from the tuner today, did a pull with the new gear and turbo sh*ts itself, limped the car home and back to the drawing board I go, new turbo needed, starting to think the move from Chev to Ford was not such a smart idea, gimme some help here guys, just spent 3.5 k on injectors, exhaust, filter and tune and now staring down the barrel of another god knows how much to replace the turbo, plenty on ebay, bugger all around Blenheim, any suggestions, who to buy off, what to avoid, can fit it myself, obviously got a free tune once all sorted and still looking to up horsepower in the future.

Ok quick update found a tuner and dyno have swapped out injectors for 1000cc sards , new cat back 3 inch exhaust (no cat) and high flow air filter, car being tuned to 10lbs dyno broke (coincidence not power) while being tuned so waiting for part from Aussie to finish tune have bought a walbro to fit when I get it back and thinking I might fit external trans cooler any suggestions on location and brand

ok evidently he has done a few Ba's and reckons occasionally they dont work with his gear, dont really know more than that but will keep you posted.

hmm not sure what happened there, couple of dodgy posts by mistake. and yup will order one in, pump is still pretty noisy so good time to upgrade

ok, well found a local dyno and tuner, prior to this I had fitted the turbosmart 7.5 psi actuator which was sold as direct swap for OEM model, and took it for a run, max boost is now 9psi, but still experiencing the engine shut down problem, put it on the dyno and found out the problem was indeed the ecu cutting the motor due to overboost, he said fuel was fine so not the fuel pump not supplying enough, and purely an ecu recognising overboost issue. Decided to have the ecu remapped to accept the extra boost. problem, ecu wont talk to his pc, so off it goes to someone up north who can fix the problem, he is covering the cost which is great, thought this over a bit and decided as it is in the shop for the next few days might as well remove the cat, ( O3 model, as I understand it I am legal by one year to do this), fit new injectors, new high flow air filter, wait for ecu to arrive then remap to the new changes. Have I missed anything, should I also remove my centre muffler? any thing else anyone can think of while its at the shop prior to tuning I should do. Plan to do valve springs, upgrade intercooler etc julyish next year at this stage.

And sure enough pulled fuel pump and hose from pump to top of housing was disconnected refitted and fastened with hose clamp and have driven some 600k’s back with no issues
