Now the days are warming up I’ll attempt to do my front hubs, I did charge the Batt today she’s been sitting awhile, I was not pissed when I did the stripes, I wanted a hockey stick look and I got it lol I also knocked a ding out of the boot lid, was dented right 9n the top line just below the wing but above the garnish my boat trailer decided to go home by itself the coupling hit the boot, and a big storm a lightning strike hit a gumtree I need the yard big branch dropped on the bonnet this ones easy fix boot lid needs a thorough massage now fill n paint and touch up the clear coat here n there and few other sheets touch up jobs, get her ready to cruise again, been three years asleep.

Lucky I got a second set, I have a pic of a ba GT with these same stripes I couldn’t get the damn things to look right, I’ll peel em off and try again if they still look sh*t I’ll try another supplier They came as two sections front covering guard and front door and the rear door, they had no extra length to allow me to sit the bottom line straight with the top of the door mould, it came up like 4 inches too short, ah well we live to learn

Very original leather interior apart from the saggy lining and missing passengers armrest my charming children busted in a door tug of war, little creeps lol there isn’t much I want to do inside , new lining, armrest when I find a trim I can scavenge one off, might fit a oil n temp gauge pod where the clock is and I want a set of leather ghia trims and console lid Theres a few minor things like switches that have worn markings I’ll change for new ones, like to change the top half to black but it presents a few issues like having to use vinyl paint on some plastic pieces that might wear and the sun visors, far as I know none of the BA models had black top pieces or did they?

No matter how I tried to line the stripes up this was the only way they’d go on, luckily I have a second set if I decide to have another go I’m right, new coat of wheel silver and repaint the skirt, I have bonnet stripes to match, got a little spoiler type lip that sits above the rear window to go on, No skids for me Im beyond that caper these days and I doubt the old girl would hang one unless it’s been raining lol but once I’ve done my engine mods the old girl might be capable of pulling something silly like a skiddy a line locker maybe

My XR6 like many others has a saggy head lining, my car has factory leather trim so I’m going have a crack at mine myself I’ve done a few in old Cherokee Jeeps over the years and there easy no curves, I often wonder why ford designers chose to have two tone interiors, black lower trim should have black upper trim, so I’ll strip the lin8ng shell out, pull the plastic trims out I’ll cover these in thin black leather, sun visors be bit more interesting coz of the vanity mirrors but there will be a way around those, the lining itself Id love to do I need leather but the cost would be prohibitive and getting a thin hide that would cover the whole shell would be difficult it would need to be sewn in sections but I can get black vinyl or maybe a black fabric I’d do away with the foam that what makes them sag it breaks down with age, has anyone attempted there own lining? After advice on what not to do, Id like to do the horn pad in leather too but the rim section up top has a worn section, anyone had there wheel redone? It’s beyond my skills, no doubt someone could do it, I’ll replace my door trims with leather ghia items and do the console lid or replace with leather ghia unit, the hand brake cover Id like to do too, I love leather.

If I thought I’d get it back together I’d wheel her in the shed and strip her down to change colour, every second one is this bloody blue, Id like either orange or yellow,

My 05 XR6 NA, unflucked with.

I parked her up a few years ago when I lost my leg, got sick of seeing her just sitting around so have begun cleaning her up body is great, mechanically fine, black leather interior is schmick everything works so why not get her going again. Have to repaint skirt, got few wheel chair scrapes, have new skirt badges, ordered a set of black hockey stripes and bonnet decals for it, until I can find either a set of snowflake alloys or another set of wheels I like I’ll repaint the factory XR6 rims, I want the factory head light covers and bonnet protector, I have factory weather shields just not fitted yet! Interior needs nothing much apart from the headlining replaced and the passengers armrest replaced, horn pad is sunburnt on top edgeso it needs replacing Mechanically stock, might fit under drive kit, slightly bigger injectors, turbo fuel pump, set of headers with 2.5 in cat back system, 3 core radiator, thatll do me until I find more things to do to it.

I have never been a fan of radiator cooling for tranny’s, how can you cool hot oil with effectively boiling water, when I fit my coolers I bypass the radiator completely, can you over cool an auto? Is the fitting of a trans temp gauge worthwhile considering I tow a heavy boat , any such thing as a deep pan for a BTR, I have long been a huge fan of Lucas oil products specially in older gearbboxes like the C-4, would the BTR benefit from some Lucas gear box puss in the oil, I try to look after my autos, Im thinking now my cooler could be up sized and perhaps fit a fan too it, love to convert to 5 speed but too much hassle.

I couldn’t like any fords from EA to EL, those EAs were just crap heaps, had a 2000 AU wasn’t a bad old machine she did the miles well, got my 05 XR6 love it. I still love the AU XR8 love the droopy nose, nearly bought one ex pace car , the 5.4s are a much better donk then the old 5 litre if I went for an XR8 it’d be the BA Yes your right they do fairly hoot along, you can’t punish the autos too much with thrill seeker heroics and waiting for it too rain so you can join 5 million other wackers out there being silly in the wet, tooo old for this now lol but I do like a fast trip to the coast or Sydney, I just want that lil bit extra available under foot when dragging the boat around. I was interested in a 5 Spd too but after reading all the comments on this and other ideas I had Im just going to be happy with what I got, damn I miss my XB so agricultural compared to these BA things.

I always thought catch cans were good for worn weedy motors that had excessive blow by, in days gone with ford pre x flows if you had a weedy motor you just plumbed the breather into a coke bottle or oil bottle and tipped it out occasionally, otherwise you ended up with a soaked filter, modern motors and there systems are wierd to me as an old schooly. PCV valves serve a purpose Id leave it be While we’re talking catch cans just how necessary are they and are they over kill on non Turbo motors

I used that green poo from Shell, it played hell with my Barra, so new plugs n filter and only use BP 98 it’s really great stuff she loves it and runs unreal with no off idle flat spot, through the mid range I notice the difference when screaming around B Doubles on the way to an fro Sydney but bit exey these days

I have just woken my ba XR6 from her two year rest, couple years ago I had a boat trailer jump the ball and drove the hitch through the top of the boot lid under the wing but above the garnish, it creased the top line and it looked like only way to fix was replace the lid, but I got the urge to have ago so I had a good look, couldn’t get to the inside as the inner steel prevented it, not to be out done I got my trusty grinder out and cut a section of the rear panel out allowing access to the crease line, so in the boot I get not an easy feat for an old fart with one leg, got my finest ball pene hammer and a bricks bolster I set to work punching the crease line out, bugger me it worked the crease came out kind off, the top metal just below wing at the front is now straight enough for me to bog it up gradually, fair it all up and paint it, my next job last year a big gumtree in a storm dropped a huge branch on the bonnet leaving a ding on top but close to front, this will be an easy repair, I stopped driving it coz I don’t like driving cars with dents, but now I’ve ordered some goodies and will be getting stuck in to it every day. Been there done that dude, had me buggered what the scrape noise was thought I picked up a stone, I just ordered new hubs for mine, it has non abs hubs on abs brakes, it stops but not legal and the rego dicks will ping it, only a ten minute job each side so no worries, and yes ten minutes I had a wrecking yard for years so some jobs I’m pretty qwick at, steering column repair another story, Ive got one leg now so contorting myself under the dash gonna be a bit hard Ah nice job, cool way off hiding a pod, rego boys don’t like them here in balmy Canberra, Im looking to increase the airflow into my Barra I’ve seen a kit like this on gaybay

With my old Cherokee I pulled the lining boards out sanded the crap foam off got some nice material from spotlight n did myself with no foam backing, it came out pretty good, I have seen you can buy the foam backed material, but I think I’d prefer a solid vinyl with a decent foam that will resist breaking down,, I want to do the top half all black, might go ezy scrap pull a lining out of a wreck n have an experiment

Yes your right why have a car that can shred tyres to bits and go faster then a missile when the bombers are out to ruin your fun, I too like the burble of a decent V8 and the Ford XR8s sounds pretty horny, just the Turbo Barra are so bloody qwick Yes the old girl is a good car just needs a tidy up and a few extra bits bolted to it, still a boy at heart lol

My head liner is typically shot, any Canberra guys here know anyone locally that can do it without over charging, mine is pinned up, alive done one in a jeep years ago could maybe do myself, Id like to maybe change top half of trim to black as well. The interior light on these are pretty ordinary, anyone retried something else in? I like the old Ford Ghia type chrome base with side lights.

Apart from the droopy head liner this is all that lets my interior down. my car has factory leather trim the front seat has a couple of minor rub marks anyone touched there’s up? How did you do it?

Got some questions re paint, my 05 XR6 Is there off the shelf paint that matches the ford silver on the wheels? My steering horn pad is sunburnt on top, is there a vinyl paint that will match the black colour?
