  1. All good mate thanks for the help
  2. Have seen this. Think it’s my only option now.
  3. So Knox Ford have just told me they don’t make the part anymore... saying it’s obsolete. Seems odd 2012 model.
  4. Temp fix helped but didn’t stop the flow. Just grabbing a new oil return line from Ford now. Will I I be able to remove and install new one up at the turbo end easily enough? How is access? I’m assuming it’s not a turbo out job... any other tips... I assume new gaskets too?
  5. Definitely a temp fix but will at least let me drive a few clicks to get all the parts I need. Cheers.
  6. I’m thinking even just some permatek Grey to seal up the leak so I can get down to super cheap etc without dumping oil everywhere.
  7. Spewing just did an oil and filter change! oh well I guess there is a chance of grit getting in. Could I use some of that thread repair stuff (I think permatek do one). Or would that risk getting crud in the oil supply too?
  8. Helicoil looks like a good thing to have. Cheers.
  9. No worries thanks I had a read through that one earlier and sonic seem to have all the parts needed to make one up. On another note I just re tightened the bolts at the sump and the lower one is not tightening!!! It feels like it is and then just goes loose again. Surely I couldn’t have stuffed the thread didn’t go that hard. Any suggestions?
  10. I had the joint apart at one point... it worries me how they just sit together there, as in no way of tightening them up together? im pretty certain that’s the only place the oil is escaping. anyone know the part number I need from ford? Or if there’s a good aftermarket option? Something like this? https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/TURBO-OIL-RETURN-HOSE-LINE-KIT-FOR-FORD-FG-UTE-XR6-FPV-F6-FALCON-G6-SEDAN-UTE/173422846911?hash=item2860cea3bf:g:OXQAAOSw6nNZugbm
  11. Hi guys, please be patient with me I’m no mechanic but looking to learn as I go... I smelt a burning oil smell smell while driving home the other night and then saw smoke coming from back of ute which turned out to be oil hitting the hot exhaust. Anyway I got it home and up on stands and there was a oil and grime all over the underside of the car so after some solid de greasing I pinpointed the leak to the oil return line. I started by tightening up the two bolts connecting the line to the sump and then started her up again. Sure enough more oil leaking. It looks to be coming from further up the line where the join is. I unbolted it all to take a look and it looks like there is no tight connection where it joins hence the leak. Is this right? It looks like they should mate together another way... like to sort it ASAP so I can drive it again without dumping oil everywhere. Attached a few photos so you know what I’m talking about. On the first one you can see where the oil is coming out.
  12. Sorry?
  13. I’m actually not sure which two bolts they replaced in the end... might have a poke around on the weekend as I imagine they would look newer than all existing bolts. Im keen to know precisely too so I can keep an eye on them and tighten every oil change or so. All I know is that they were apparently “turbo housing bolts” and that the turbo oil and water lines were removed to get access to them.
  14. At least I learnt a little in the process so all good. So cracked turbine housing you reckon? Is this not something Casey Automotive would have spotted when investigating?
  15. All good. In hindsight this bloke was 100% spot on... “Try the bolts that hold the exhaust housing onto the turbo (next to the oil feed pipe) there's 4 or 5 of them & Ive seen on a couple of cars that one has actually fallen out” Id actually lost two completely so will have to torque all these down regularly I guess... along with all the others. On that note does anyone on here do away with the heat shield altogether to make servicing easier or are they actually really effective/necessary?
  16. Lol, I tightened every fastener I could get to fellas. I’m just a humble Chippy, mechanical not really my thing though always willing to have a crack! Looking at invoice they had to remove turbo oil and coolant lines to get the job done so can’t have been that easy to get to. People laughed at me for suggesting I remove the turbo but they just about had to to get the job done. Just nice to have her making all the right noises again and boosting properly.
  17. So case closed took to Casey Automotive. Great business they have there and Troy was a great guy to deal with. Turned out there were two bolts completely missing from the turbo housing. Shows how good a mechanic I am. She is humming along again! Thanks for all your help here.
  18. The plot thickens... driving home and car started really coughing and spluttering at idle at the lights. Check engine warning came up with “(1)” and car would barely move. Pulled over and switched off and restarted and then seemed to drive home ok. Noticed the pipe going onto the turbo (front left) was really looose so tightened that up as much as I could. Obviously the retard at the exhaust shop had it off and didn’t tighten it up properly. I tightened up as much as I could to get home but not sure that was the cause of the check engine light. Bloody concerning whatever it is. Will definitely be going to Casey Automotive ASAP.
  19. Ok no worries... Franga is a bit of a hike for me but if they’re highly recommended might be worth the trip. Its either there or Casey Automotive in Cranbourne... not wrong on the length of the thread, was really hoping just a loose fastener somewhere and a simple fix... to be continued!
  20. great thanks again
  21. From memory there is someone out Cranbourne way but not sure of name...
  22. Yeah he’s a nice guy this bloke but I don’t really trust him with anything other than some exhaust repairs. Ok so I’m in Eastern suburbs Melbourne, leave work in Kew and drive out to the Dandenong ranges every day so anywhere in the east or south east would be preferable...
  23. Ok so guy at exhaust shop has had a look and is pretty stumped. He seems to think that there is a greyed up carbon area near the turbo... he is talking about a c spring or something near front of turbo. He he was honest with me and said he doesn’t really know the cars that well and was hesitant to start pulling turbo apart etc. what should I do now? I’m thinking of taking it to ford but am now pretty worried that the turbo is in trouble. Any advice much appreciated!
  24. Who stocks Metrinch by the way?
  25. Lol. Yeah hoping I don’t have to pull too much apart but getting access to all the fasteners I need to get to is pretty damn frustrating/painful. Part of me thinks just pull it all out from manifold to cat and I can check everything over properly and tighten it all right up as I reassemble. That said having to reassemble it all on the car will mean I need to access all those hard to reach spots anyway.... stay tuned for more swearing and frustration this weekend
