  1. So found out the side of the piston is missing on cylinder 6 and has also done slight damage to the bore. I will get some pictures later. I can rebuild it myself I just need to get the maching costs quoted and go from there. I did notice I couldnt find any of the missing pieces that have broken off the top of the piston, there isnt enough damage to the valves or cylinder for it to have been knocking around in the cylinder. there is no damage to the underside of the valves or head, the turbo looks ok and like nothing has gone through it. Is it possible the old owner knew about it and removed the pieces or is it possible they could have melted? Now I need to asses my options to either rebuild or get a second hand FPV f6 motor and drop it in and tune it up. Whats every ones thoughts
  2. South Coast NSW. I am goin gto pull he head off and see what I find and then go form there. Has anyone installed a FPV trubo motor from a typhoon into a xr6 turbo ute before? as I may have to buy a second hand motor and might aswell put a better one in then factory standard. I want to use the ECU fropm the typhoon, does anyone know if this can be doen or will I have to re-learn all the computers to each other and also who can do that? Cheers
  3. this just happened to me. bought a bf mk 2 ute and it blew up in 300 kms time.

Thanks fellas, the fella is doing a compression test tomorrow and also a bore scope and hopefully that will tell me what im up for. is it possible that the turbo seals could have just let go and a coil pack at the same time causing the misfire? as the oil on the dipstick is not milky and there is no bubbles coming through into the header tank? If im up for a re-build who would you all recommend and what options would you recommend. If not which wreckers seems to get the cheap motors? Thanks again
  5. Hi fellow members, I am in a spot of bother. I have just bought a second hand bf turbo ute and I have driven it 300kms and now it is blowing smoke out the exhaust and has a misfire on 6. local mechanic looked at it and is nearly certain it's a hole in the piston. whats the best option for me to do? Should I pull the head off and confirm it is and the. Look for a short motor to re-build it with or look for a exchange motor. any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers alex.
