  1. Hi All, I recently bought a stock '15 XR6 Turbo with the auto ZF and it has about 85k KMs on it (NOT an ex HWP) which has been pretty awesome overall however im starting to have some issues with it and was wanting some help trying to figure out whats going on. I came from a 2010 G6 (NA) so I knew what to expect with some things (diff bushes for example). Of course the issues started happening right after it went out of the 3 month warranty given by the dealer I bought it from but luckily, its still under Ford new car warranty until March. Ive tried to google the issues but im no mechanic and have no idea what I should be googling, but here we go. So, first off. As part of the sale, the dealer got Ford to replace the diff bushes as they were flogged, not un-expected however, I have a REALLY bad knock coming from the rear of the car now. It happens most when im coming to a stop at lights for example and the tranny goes from 2nd to 1st. Big old clunk from the back. Also happens when I engage reverse and if im driving normally in a straight line if I start tapping the accelerator over and over again, it happens as well. I jacked the car up this weekend and had a peak underneath to see if there was anything that was broken or loose but everything seemed fairly solid so im at a loss as the bushes are brand new. Im probably going to take the car to Ford and get them to deal with it, but the car has aftermarket 20s on it (previous owner) so I dont know if Ford is going say "Its the larger wheels that have caused it, to bad so sad". Would like to know everyone's opinion on that one . Next issue I have is the turbo noise, now ive never driven another one of these cars stock so I have no idea if this noise is normal but the car between 2 and 3K RPM sounds like it has a supercharger whine and it seems to come on and off whit acceleration and the speed of the turbo. Could be normal buts ive never had it in another turbo car. Next on the list is the blinkers. In my FG G6, if you tapped the blinker one way or the other (without fully clicking it) it would blink 3 times. My new car doesn't seem to do it, well I say doesn't seem to do it because its done it for one day which was yesterday after I jacked the car up which I thought was extremely weird but today it was back to no more 3 blinks. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Almost there, second last issue im having is a small knock coming from the front end. Seems to be coming from the front left which I initially thought was a ball joint but I checked them yesterday and its all good. Nothing else seemed to be loose that I could see. If I wiggle the steering whilst the car is off, there is quiet alot of noise mainly from the front left that seems to happen. Could be something loose but im not totally sure. Ill try to get a vid of it tomorrow for yall. Last thing is the tranny its self. In my old FG G6 which had the ZF as well, it was always very smooth and I never had any issues with it being in the wrong gear or between gears and was always very responsive when I floored it. The new one is fairly good overall and seems to change gears much faster and more aggressively under moderate or high acceleration compared to my G6 but I keep having this issue where when im coming to a stop but I dont make a complete stop, if I jump on the gas again even very slightly (like pulling out at a roundabout for example) it seems to be have no power and has a think before the entire car will lurch fairly violently into 1st gear to get me moving. The other thing it does is when the car is cold (IE, been sitting overnight) when I go from park to reverse, the tranny cluncks pretty violently as if it was spring loaded to do so, scared the hell out of me the first time it did it. My last car did it as well but not to the degree that this one does. Here is a vid of the whining noise as well as you can hear the clunks a little bit but not very well. ill try to get a better vid tomorrow. Main thing I want to know out of this entire thread is if ford is going to void my warranty because there are 20s on it instead of the factory 19s that came with the car. I really dont want to have to go and get the correct rims just to get ford to fix this stuff. Keen on everyone's thoughts.
  2. Depending on what I decide to go with (8 or 6T) will decide the budget really. If I get the 8 id be wiling to spend around 5-10K but if I can get a nicely priced 6T, the budget would be higher in the sort of 10-15K range. First thing on any car I buy will be upgrading the anchors (Especially on the 6T).
  3. Thanks for the feedback guys. I know its going to cost just short of an arm and a leg but unfortunately I dont have the room for two cars to have around. that's the main reason I want one as a daily that I can track on the off occasion. I know for tracking that the manuals are the better option but ive managed to find a couple of guys running the ZF on thier circuit cars. Is the ZF trans really that good after a rebuild and tune? Would that ZF put quick times down around the track? I know they are a weapon on the strip but have always questioned its ability on the track as even with some spirited st driving, it just feels clunky and strange when trying to engine brake (at least in my experience but that could have changed in the newer revisions). You mention the fact that throttle control is needed either way and that's fine I know, but surely those higher KW falcons IE 350RWKW or higher have alot of lag on the tracks? Just seems all the vids of them on the dyno show it takes a while for it to come on and then when it does, it REALLY comes on. An issue that you done really have with the miami as the torque is more linear. Am I overthinking it or wouldnt that make it much harder to get on the gas and put in the better times? I just keep thinking loads of oversteer?
  4. Hi All, Im off my P's real soon and am looking at all of my options. Ive always wanted to buy a V8 so ive been looking pretty closely at the 5L Miami cars available (GS, GT, XR8) and it seem like manuals are getting pretty hard to find and often carry a price premium. My first question is, As someone who would cares more about circuit racing, what tranny would people recommend? Reason im asking is, people seem to say that the Manual trans in the falcons is pretty crap and most seem to say go with the ZF as its a great box (I have a G6 50th ZF and I love the thing) the only thing about it is that its kinda crap for track work as it doesnt blip/rev match on the downshifts meaning that 90% of the time you just over slow the car or lock the rears. Is that still the case in the FGX ZF's or is there any way of getting it tuned so that it can or should I just go with the manual and call it a day (Would prefer the auto as its a daily driver). I saw a vid of a ZF GTF on the dyno and it sounded like it was blipping on downshifts when it was slowing. My Second question is, for track work, what does everyone prefer (Motor)? Barra or Miami? I see the high horse KW Barras and it seems like they have alot of lag with the larger snails (To be expected) but that would mean (in my mind) that driving out of corners on the track would be harder because when it comes onto boost its just going to brake traction? Am I wrong? Thoughts? Third question, Whats every ones fav brake kit? Seem like the 4 pot Brembos struggle after a lap or two of hard driving and seeing that most cars have the 4 pots, what does everyone recommend for upgrading? I can see that there are XYZ Racing 6 pot kits on the net but I couldnt really find any good cases of people using them. Im sure ill think of more things but, this is whats sitting in my mind right now. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. So, im just turned 20 and off my Ps at the end of the year and currently drive a 2010 G6 50th anno. Love the car to bits and have always said that id go for another falcon in the future as ive always been a ford guy and so have both my parents so its the logical choice. Anyway, My parents have been looking at a new car ever since theirs got written off to flood damage ('11 VW Tiguan with faulty AC / sunroof drain pipe) so as you can imagine weve been everywhere looking at options and I decided to wander over to the commodores whilst they were elsewhere just to see what the other camp was offering and my god I was impressed. All the tech and features (and WAY better driving position which I always thought was a load) but long story short, I was blown away. After reading up on the reviews online I came to the realisation that Ford really hasnt left the faithful with much to be desired. Sure theres the Mustang but at a touch under 70k and a 12 month wait, its not real cheap and youll be waiting a while as well. I understand that alot of it is just overlooking the problems but (As sad as it is) all the reviews are correct, the car just looks tired on the inside and the drive just doesnt compare in my opinion. I dont really know where I was going with this but im so close to buying an LS3 powered Late model camira it isnt funny and just wanted other peoples opinions on it. Why should I buy another falcon when the competition is just so much better value for money. Ive thought about buying an F6 but im more into circuit racing than drags so the turbo makes it a little more difficult in that department and the XR8 even in all of its Supercharged glory just doesnt seem up to the job of tagging the Commo. TLDR; Blue blood thinking of defecting :(
